Recovering from Accessory Breast Removal: Timeframe and Tips

October 28, 2023

Breast hypoplasia is a common method of breast plastic surgery. Patients who seek beauty are often concerned about the recovery time after the surgery, as it may affect their work and studies. This article mainly introduces the knowledge about how long it takes to recover after removing accessory breasts.

Introduction to accessory breast removal surgery

Accessory breast removal surgery requires creating a small incision in the armpit. After the skin flap is freed, the glandular tissue and excess skin are completely removed to achieve a smooth local tissue. If there are also nipples and areolas present, they will be removed as well. Accessory breast removal surgery is not complicated and can usually be completed under local anesthesia.

Sutures can be removed in 7-10 days post-surgery

After accessory breast removal surgery, the incision needs to be dressed for 7-10 days. At this time, the incision is basically healed and the sutures can be removed. Normal work and life can gradually resume. However, it is important to note that vigorous exercise and physical collisions should be avoided, as the internal structure still requires some time to heal.

Basic recovery in about a month

After accessory breast removal, the internal tissue structure needs about 3-4 weeks to heal. Of course, the specific recovery time depends on the size of the accessory breasts and individual physical condition. Apart from wound infections, which can prolong the recovery period, it usually takes about a month to fully recover.

Long-lasting effects after surgery

Accessory breasts, also known as polymastia, are an incomplete degeneration of the human body. By removing all the mammary gland tissue of the accessory breasts through surgery, it is a one-time surgery with lifelong effectiveness and no rebound.

How to recover quickly after accessory breast removal

1. Apply ice packs

Applying ice packs to the surgical site after surgery can help reduce swelling and alleviate pain.

2. Avoid lifting heavy objects

After accessory breast removal, rest is important. Avoid lifting heavy objects and engaging in vigorous exercise for 2 weeks to prevent pulling on the incision and affecting recovery.

3. Avoid getting wet within a week

4. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, and avoid spicy and irritating foods.

5. Follow your doctor's instructions and take medication on time.
