Effective Massage Techniques for Body and Mind Relaxation

February 2, 2024

    (1) Relaxation of body and mind.

During massage, in addition to focusing the mind, it is especially important to keep calm and relax the whole body, aiming for relaxation of both body and mind.

    (2) Precise acupoint selection.

Master the methods and techniques for selecting commonly used acupoints in order to achieve accurate acupoint selection and proper techniques.

    (3) Appropriate force.

Too little force does not produce the desired stimulation, while excessive force can lead to fatigue and skin damage.

    (4) Gradual progression.

The number of massage techniques should start with fewer and gradually increase, the force should start with light and gradually intensify, and the number of acupoints can be gradually increased.

    (5) Persistence.

Whether using massage for health maintenance or treating chronic illnesses, it does not take effect in just one or two days. It often takes time to gradually see results, so one should have confidence, patience, and perseverance.

In addition to the above precautions, it is also important to know the timing of massage for health maintenance, with each session lasting about 20 minutes. It is best to do it once in the morning and once before bed, such as before getting up in the morning and before going to sleep at night. To enhance the therapeutic effect and prevent skin damage, a certain lubricant such as talcum powder, sesame oil, or massage lotion can be used during the massage. Massage for health maintenance is prohibited on areas with broken skin, ulcers, fractures, tuberculosis, tumors, bleeding, etc. When performing self-massage, it is best to wear only a vest and shorts, and the techniques should directly contact the skin as much as possible. If sweating occurs after massage, attention should be paid to avoiding drafts to prevent catching a cold. In addition, massage for health maintenance should not be done when excessively hungry, full, intoxicated, or excessively fatigued.
