Adjusting Your Facial Cleanser for Changing Seasons: Finding the Right Balance

February 29, 2024

Many women tend to stick to a facial cleanser that suits their skin type and use it throughout the year. This is a serious mistake. With the changing seasons and varying climates, the choice of cleansing products needs to be adjusted according to the changes in the skin.

The secretion of facial sebum changes with temperature and humidity. Sebum acts like a lotion, locking in the skin's moisture and keeping it hydrated. If there is too little sebum secretion, the skin will feel dry and lack moisture.

Generally speaking, in winter, due to the dry and cold weather, the sebum secretion decreases and the moisturizing ability of the skin also decreases. Therefore, if you continue to use a facial cleanser that gives a refreshing feeling in the summer, it will result in excessive cleansing and wash away the natural oils that protect the skin. The correct choice would be to use a moisturizing cleanser.

There is a simple way to test the effectiveness of a facial cleanser. After washing the face, wait for 30 minutes. If the skin still feels tight, it means that the oil removal effect of the cleanser is too strong. But if the skin still feels greasy, then the effect is not enough.

Therefore, throughout the year, the choice of facial cleanser should be adjusted according to the feeling after washing the face. For older individuals, those with poor skin adaptability, oily or sensitive skin, it is recommended to change the facial cleanser three times a year according to the seasons of spring, summer, and winter. For younger women with healthy skin, changing the facial cleanser twice a year is sufficient.
