Choosing and Caring for Facial Cleansing Tools: The Key to Healthy Skin

February 27, 2024

Washing your face involves multiple steps and, of course, requires multiple tools. Do not overlook the details because "a small leak will sink a great ship." Let's discuss the selection and precautions for facial cleansing tools below.

Basin

If you only use facial cleanser to wash your face, then running water is enough. You don't need a basin because if the basin is not cleaned properly, it can breed mites and other bacteria, which will burden your skin instead. However, if you want to use purified water to wash your face, or add vinegar, salt, or switch to rice water for face cleansing, it is recommended to disinfect the basin with boiling water before use. This way, it will be relatively safer.

Towel

Many women have the habit of grabbing a towel hanging on the wall to dry their faces after washing. In fact, using the same towel for both hands and face can cause cross-infection. Moreover, towels placed in the air can breed various bacteria and microorganisms. When your clean face is disturbed, it is equivalent to secondary pollution, which is harmful to the skin. Therefore, it is recommended to use disposable tissues to wipe your face after washing. This way, it will be safer.

Cleansing Sponge

Cleansing sponges can be found in many cosmetic stores and online shops. They are also popular in South Korea and Japan. Using facial cleanser on a cleansing sponge can create more foam, providing a comfortable and clean feeling, which is favored by many women. However, there is one thing you must pay attention to. If you insist on using a cleansing sponge, you must disinfect it with boiling water before use. After washing, place it in a sunny and ventilated area to prevent bacterial growth. Another thing to note is that you must choose a soft and gentle sponge. Some sponges with strong friction are only suitable for exfoliating the body. They may be too harsh for the face and damage the stratum corneum.

Hands

Most women wash their faces directly with their hands, but there can still be mistakes. For example, if you are using makeup remover, it is recommended to use it on dry hands and face. However, think about how many bacteria your hands come into contact with on the way home. Washing your face directly is equivalent to wiping bacteria directly on your face. So, don't be lazy. When you enter your home, thoroughly wash your hands with disinfectant soap or hand wash liquid. Dry them with a tissue, and then proceed with your facial cleansing routine. Although it is a small step, it should never be ignored.
