Good women don't swallow their anger
In traditional beliefs, people always think that Chinese women should be gentle, virtuous, and considerate of the overall situation. However, the physiological differences between women and men determine that women are more sensitive and emotional, especially during special periods such as menstruation and pregnancy. Women are more prone to irritability and anger during these times. Some women think that they should hold in their anger and not take it out on unrelated people, resulting in the accumulation of their own frustration. So, how should we deal with bad temper? Please read on!
Expressing anger appropriately is beneficial to health
In Chinese idiomatic language, "temper" refers to a negative emotion with resentment. Why did ancient people call this emotion "temper" and venting negative emotions as "throwing a temper," rather than calling it something else like "throwing kidney temper" or "throwing stomach temper"?
Traditional Chinese medicine has the theory that "the seven emotions arise from the five viscera and also harm the five viscera." It believes that anger arises from the liver and that anger harms the liver. All causes of irritability and anger come from the imbalance of the liver's yang qi and blood. The imbalance of the liver can be caused by liver qi stagnation, liver fire blazing, or a weak spleen allowing the liver to become excessive. Especially when the temper is weak, it can lead to excessive liver qi, resulting in difficulty controlling one's temper. Since the liver belongs to wood and the spleen belongs to earth, the wood of the liver restrains the earth of the spleen. If the excessive liver qi and liver fire are vented, it is beneficial for the growth of the temper and can improve a weak temper. Therefore, ancient people called venting anger "throwing a temper," meaning suppressing excessive liver qi by venting anger to boost the temper. Understanding this principle, we know the benefits of occasionally expressing anger for human health, and it is not difficult to understand the results of this study.
Understanding women's "temper"
Speaking of "throwing a temper," it is particularly important to mention women. Due to physiological reasons, women experience special periods such as menstruation, pregnancy, and childbirth in their lives. Each special period brings different degrees of physiological and psychological effects to women. For most women, emotional changes are particularly evident.
For women during the premenstrual and menstrual periods, the blood flows downward while the qi floats upward, causing an imbalance in qi and blood. Excess qi leads to the generation of fire. Therefore, women during this time may appear restless, easily irritated, and prone to anger and other emotional changes. For women during pregnancy and childbirth, a large amount of blood and qi is consumed, resulting in insufficient blood and qi. Insufficient blood and qi lead to relative abundance of fire. In addition to other signs of physical weakness, there will be obvious emotional changes and symptoms such as being easily angered. Women during menopause experience a significant decline in various bodily functions, weakening of kidney qi, and gradual depletion of qi and blood. This can lead to obvious emotional changes, irritability, and other symptoms of menopausal syndrome. These women during special physiological periods are particularly "fragile," emotionally unstable, and prone to sudden bursts of anger. In severe cases, they may feel restless, have difficulty eating and sleeping. In addition, due to weak temper, there may also be symptoms of weak digestion, such as bloating, loose stools, fatigue, and epigastric pain.
However, due to the evaluation criteria for "good women" and the lack of understanding from family members, some reasonable and polite women have to suppress themselves and endure not expressing their temper. Over time, excessive liver qi cannot be relieved and corrected, suppressing the normal operation and function of the temper, resulting in a more stubborn constitution of deficiency of nourishing blood and deficiency of qi and blood. This has a significant impact on life and work and damages health.
When you have negative emotions, you must not hold them in. Doing so will only allow negative factors to affect your life and make the illness worse, causing more harm to your health. For women in special physiological periods, I suggest that you express your negative emotions in a way that doesn't harm others, such as by diverting your attention or going out to relax. If you have a temper, let it out. This will help promote your physical health!
