Navigating Menopause: Tips for Women's Health and Well-being

December 18, 2023

About one-third of a woman's life is spent after menopause. Therefore, doctors emphasize that it is worth paying more attention to understanding the changes during menopause and the issues of physical health during this stage. Women's ovarian function gradually declines in the few years before menopause, and by the age of 45, estrogen secretion decreases, and signs of menstrual irregularities appear. Although menopause is a natural process in life, the result of insufficient estrogen after menopause is a common occurrence, and it also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and dementia.

Therefore, after menopause, how can women improve their health and enjoy life? Doctors also propose several suggestions:

    1. Balanced nutrition:

Intake a moderate amount of the six major food groups every day, including dairy products, grains and tubers (i.e. staple foods), eggs, beans, fish and meat, vegetables, fruits, and fats. Different types of food contain different nutrients, and daily food choices must be diverse and appropriate in order to maintain overall health.

    2. Take care of your body:

Health needs to be carefully managed. Understand your body's condition, and if necessary, seek medical care. Studies have shown that appropriate hormone supplementation has more benefits than drawbacks on health.

    3. Optimistic attitude towards life:

Menopause is a journey that every woman must go through. Facing menopause with an optimistic and healthy attitude can make life more enjoyable.

    4. Adequate exercise:

Choose appropriate exercises according to age and physical condition, such as jogging, walking, tai chi, and aerobics, and stick to it. Regular exercise not only promotes blood circulation and increases metabolism, but also reduces the occurrence of osteoporosis and helps eliminate depressive moods, making both body and mind feel pleasant.

    5. Regular health check-ups:

After menopause, the incidence of many diseases increases, and regular health check-ups can help detect and treat them early. For example, monthly self-breast examinations and annual cervical smear tests can diagnose breast cancer or cervical cancer early, increasing the chances of curing them.
