After entering puberty, secondary sexual characteristics begin to develop. In girls (aged 9-12), the stimulation of hormones secreted by the ovaries leads to the appearance of breast buds, which gradually increase in size. Generally, the development of the breasts is symmetrical on both sides. As girls grow older and reach the late stage of puberty, their breasts become full and elastic. During this period, it is especially important to pay attention to breast health.
1. Teach adolescent girls about female physiological hygiene knowledge, establish a correct understanding of sexual health, and eliminate their feelings of tension, shyness, and fear towards sexual development.
2. In the early stage of breast development, if there is discomfort or pain, especially during exercise, it is important to wear a properly fitting bra. Cotton bras are preferred, neither too tight nor too loose. Tight bras can compress the breasts, causing the nipples to retract and affecting blood supply to the breasts, which is not conducive to development. Loose bras do not provide proper support and can lead to sagging. In some regions, it is common for girls to wear tight chest wraps or use long wide cloth bands to bind their chests, flattening the breasts. This backward and ignorant behavior is still prevalent in some impoverished areas of our country and should be corrected. The breasts need to be freed and given space to stretch.
3. Nutrition should be enhanced during the period of breast development. Healthy breasts require abundant and adequate nutrition, which is closely related to the overall nutritional status of the body. Daily intake of protein and fat should be ensured, and it is recommended to consume fish, meat, eggs, poultry, as well as vegetables and fruits.
4. Physical exercise is essential. Adolescence is the second peak period of growth and development. Physical exercise should be strengthened. In addition to full-body exercises, it is also important to focus on exercises that promote breast health. Stretching, chest expansion, pull-ups, and breast massage are recommended. Breast massage should be gentle and rhythmic, starting from the outside and moving inward, with the breasts as the center.
5. The adolescent period is a high-risk period for breast hyperplasia and breast fibroids. Once diagnosed, timely treatment is crucial. One should not avoid seeking medical attention out of embarrassment. Conservative treatment may involve taking some Chinese and Western medicine that promotes blood circulation, reduces stasis, and softens and disperses lumps. Physical therapy can also be combined. If the lump continues to grow, surgical intervention should be considered. Psychological treatment is also necessary. One should overcome feelings of depression and anxiety, pay attention to emotional well-being, ensure sufficient sleep, maintain a balanced diet, and strike a balance between work and rest.
