Anemia and Diet: Three Nutritious Menus for Blood Supplementation

April 8, 2024

If you have pale skin and feel weak when walking, experience symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, tinnitus, dizziness, and blurred vision with slight exercise, there is no doubt that you have anemia.

Anemia is a common blood disorder characterized by a low concentration of hemoglobin in the body. The causes of this condition are diverse and may include a decrease in red blood cell production, a deficiency of specific nutrients in the body, hemolysis, and blood loss. In addition to medication, diet can also help alleviate symptoms. Here are a few recommended dietary menus for blood supplementation.

Spinach and Pork Liver Soup

It is well known that animal liver has a blood-supplementing effect. Spinach, with its content of trace elements such as iron, vitamins, and carotene, is also an ideal choice for blood supplementation. Therefore, a soup made with pork liver and spinach should not be missed by patients with anemia.

The recipe for this soup is simple. Just prepare an appropriate amount of pork liver, spinach, ginger, spring onion, and various seasonings. First, wash the pork liver and cut it into thin slices, marinating it with salt. Then wash the spinach and cut it into long pieces, removing excess water. Wash the spring onion and ginger, cut them into pieces, and set aside. Add an appropriate amount of water and oil to a pot and bring it to a boil. Blanch the spinach in the boiling water, remove excess water, and transfer the spring onion and ginger along with the oil to the soup pot. Then add an appropriate amount of water to the pot, bring it to a boil, and add the pork liver after washing off the salt. Cook over high heat for a few minutes, then add the spinach and simmer over medium heat for a few minutes. Finally, remember to add the appropriate seasonings before removing from heat.

Danggui and Black Chicken Soup

Danggui, a traditional Chinese medicine known for its blood-supplementing and blood-activating effects, combined with black chicken, a food ingredient that supplements Qi, is an excellent combination for blood supplementation.

Just prepare a black chicken, an appropriate amount of danggui, and some seasonings. First, wash the black chicken, danggui, spring onion, garlic, and other seasonings. Cut them into pieces and set aside. Take a clay pot and place the ingredients at the bottom. Place the black chicken on top of the ingredients. Then add an appropriate amount of water to the pot, simmer over low heat for two hours, and add the seasonings when the chicken becomes tender. Finally, remove from heat.

Red Date and Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Porridge

Both brown sugar and red dates are excellent for blood activation and supplementation. When combined with sweet and sticky glutinous rice, not only does it taste great, but it also has a significant effect on blood supplementation.

Just prepare an appropriate amount of red dates, brown sugar, and glutinous rice. First, rinse the rice and red dates. Add an appropriate amount of water to a pot and add the rice and red dates. Simmer over low heat until the porridge thickens and the rice becomes tender. Then add the brown sugar and stir well. Cook for a few more minutes and then remove from heat.

These three dietary methods are simple, nutritious, and delicious, making them excellent options for patients with anemia.
