Common Family Medicinal Recipes
Yan Shen Yan Wo Congee
Effect: Nourishes the lungs and nourishes yin, stops coughing and calms the blood.
Indications: Insufficient qi and yin, long-term coughing and wheezing, blood in phlegm, hemoptysis due to pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary emphysema, pulmonary heart disease, asthma, etc.
Method: Wash and soak 15 grams of bird's nest until soft. Add 4-5 slices of American ginseng and 100 grams of glutinous rice to cook into porridge. Add appropriate amount of rock sugar for taste. Consume as a meal replacement. Once daily.
American Ginseng and Tremella Congee
Effect: Nourishes yin and lungs, moisturizes the intestines and stops coughing.
Indications: Elderly asthma, dry cough with little phlegm, restlessness, night sweats, dry mouth and desire to drink, afternoon fever, constipation with dry stools, red tongue with little saliva, and thin and rapid pulse.
Method: Wash and soak a small piece of Tremella in cold water until soft. Add 4-5 slices of American ginseng and 100 grams of glutinous rice to cook into porridge. Add rock sugar for taste. If you are a diabetic patient, you can add xylitol for taste and make it into a paste with flour. Once daily.
American Ginseng and Walnut Congee
Effect: Warms the lungs and moisturizes the intestines, nourishes qi and blood, strengthens the kidneys and secures the essence, and calms asthma.
Indications: Weak and thin body, weak and sore waist and knees, impotence and premature ejaculation, frequent nocturnal urination, constipation, as well as adult pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic bronchitis, asthma, hyperlipidemia, etc.
Method: Take crushed walnut kernels, 5 grams of white ginseng, and 100 grams of glutinous rice. Add appropriate amount of water and cook into porridge. Add sugar for taste. Once daily.
American Ginseng and Chinese Yam Porridge
Effect: Supports the upright, strengthens the spleen, nourishes qi, strengthens the kidneys, and nourishes the lungs and kidneys.
Indications: Qi and yin deficiency, various weaknesses, dizziness, forgetfulness, tinnitus, thinness, nocturnal emissions, frequent urination, as well as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, etc.
Method: Take 30 grams of white ginseng, 500 grams of Chinese yam, 300 grams of soybeans, and process them into powder. Mix about 100 grams of powder with 30 grams of glutinous rice to make porridge. Can also add vegetables to make savory porridge. Once or twice daily.
American Ginseng and Razor Clam Congee
Effect: Nourishes the five organs, nourishes the essence and blood, and stops sweating.
Indications: Dizziness, forgetfulness, spontaneous sweating, night sweats, hot flashes, irritability, as well as neurasthenia, menopausal syndrome, excessive vaginal discharge in women, etc.
Method: Take 10 razor clams (wash off the sand), 5-6 slices of American ginseng, and 100 grams of glutinous rice. Soak in water for 2 hours, then cook over low heat into porridge. Add salt for taste. Once or twice daily.
American Ginseng and Dried Ginger Congee
Effect: Warms the middle, dispels cold, strengthens the spleen, and nourishes the stomach.
Indications: Spleen and stomach deficiency and cold, fatigue, cold pain in the epigastric region, loss of appetite, intestinal rumbling and diarrhea, indigestion, cold limbs.
Method: Take 15 grams of red ginseng and 30 grams of dried ginger (dried). Grind them into fine powder and store in a bottle. When eating porridge, add 3 grams of American ginseng and dried ginger powder and a little sugar, mix well and consume. Once daily.
Dual Nourishing Congee
Effect: Nourishes the deficiency, benefits qi, nourishes blood, and stops bleeding.
Indications: Deficiency of qi and blood, pale complexion, shortness of breath, lethargy, dizziness, forgetfulness, insomnia, palpitations, excessive menstrual flow, irregular menstruation, threatened miscarriage, etc.
Method: Take 5-6 slices of red ginseng and cook repeatedly in water until the medicine is tasteless. Cook 100 grams of glutinous rice into porridge with the red ginseng juice. When the porridge is cooked, add 15 grams of donkey-hide gelatin and boil for another 3-5 minutes until dissolved. Add a little sugar for taste. Once daily.
Ginseng and Poria Cocos Congee
Effect: Strengthens the spleen, benefits qi, diuresis, reduces swelling, and delays aging.
Indications: Spleen deficiency and dampness, fatigue, bloating, loss of appetite, loose stools, premature aging, chronic illness and physical weakness, etc.
Method: Grind 15 grams of red ginseng and 100 grams of poria cocos into fine powder. Cook glutinous rice into porridge and add 3-5 grams of the powder when the porridge is half cooked. Add a little rock sugar for taste. Consume on an empty stomach in the morning and evening. If used for longevity and health preservation, white ginseng can be used instead of red ginseng.
Ginseng and Coix Seed Congee
Effect: Strengthens the spleen, diuresis, anti-cancer, and beauty.
Indications: Spleen deficiency and qi weakness, physical fatigue, heaviness throughout the body, swelling of limbs and joints, loss of appetite, edema, beriberi, diarrhea, as well as skin warts, acne, gastric cancer, bladder cancer, etc.
Method: Grind 50 grams of white ginseng into fine powder. Take 50 grams of glutinous rice and 30 grams of coix seed, cook into porridge, and add 2 grams of ginseng powder and appropriate amount of brown sugar for taste. Consume on an empty stomach. Once daily.
