The Correct Way to Wash Your Face for Acne Treatment: A Step-by-Step Guide

March 6, 2024

Women with acne-prone skin need to learn the correct way to wash their face in order to effectively treat their acne. Acne is caused by overactive sebaceous glands and clogged pores. If we don't cleanse our skin properly, it can lead to bacterial infection, inflammation, and the formation of pimples, nodules, and even cysts. This can result in pigmentation and scarring. Below, we will introduce a correct method of washing the face for acne treatment.

Step 1: Prepare a clean, soft towel and a mild, non-irritating soap.

Step 2: Place the soap in water with a temperature of 22-23℃ (72-73°F) and rub it until it lathers. The more foam, the better.

Step 3: Use your hands to scoop up the foam and gently wash your face for 1 minute. If you feel any discomfort around the acne, stop immediately.

Step 4: Rinse your face with hot water at a temperature of 38-40℃ (100-104°F) for 20 seconds, then switch to warm water and rinse for another 20 seconds. Repeat this process three times. During this process, you can gently tap your face with your fingers. If possible, using a showerhead would be more convenient. Keep your face at a distance from the showerhead and let the hot water spray on your face while gently tapping it with your fingertips. Finish by adjusting the water temperature to a comfortable level and spraying your face for another 20 seconds.

Step 5: Use a dry towel to pat your face dry, starting from the forehead and moving down to the cheeks.

Finally, apply a toner with astringent properties to your face. If it feels tight, you can apply it multiple times. Consistently following this face-washing method in the morning and evening will have a noticeable effect on acne at different stages.
