Taking Care of Your Body: Nurturing, Beauty, Spirit, and Relaxation

February 7, 2024

Women have a 28-day physiological cycle, which is the same as the skin's growth cycle. This 28-day cycle can be divided into four stages, with each stage lasting for 7 days. During each stage, the skin and body undergo different changes. By taking certain measures, we can better take care of our bodies.

Stage 1: Nurturing

During days 1 to 7, women are in their menstrual period. During this time, almost all women experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, pale complexion, fatigue, chills, dizziness, lower back pain, and irritability. Skin may also become dry, dull, and show prominent dark circles. It is important to consume foods that nourish the blood and qi, regulate emotions, and promote skin health during this time. Examples include almond, black fungus, glutinous rice, Chinese yam, lean meat, chicken, beef, jujube, brown sugar, prepared Rehmannia root, apple, and milk. During these 7 days, women can safely consume these foods without worrying about weight gain.

Towards the end of the menstrual period, it is beneficial to drink some red wine, as it can nourish the qi and blood, protect the organs and meridians. It is advisable to avoid consuming cooling foods such as winter melon, eggplant, pear, and watermelon; sour foods such as sour plum and hawthorn; and spicy foods such as fried foods, chili, pepper, and mustard during this time to prevent stagnation of qi and blood and worsen menstrual pain. It is also recommended to consume sweets in moderation during the menstrual period, such as chocolate and pastries, as they not only do not cause weight gain but also promote metabolism.

Besides dietary maintenance, it is important to ensure adequate sleep and engage in moderate exercise to relieve symptoms during the menstrual period. Yoga is a great exercise for this time, as it not only relaxes the body and mind but also improves sleep quality.

Stage 2: Beauty and Slimming

During days 7 to 14, women's skin is at its best, with a radiant and smooth complexion. The skin has excellent absorption capacity for skincare products during this time, making it the best time for beauty and skincare. Women with poor complexion and rough skin can choose skincare products rich in nutrients or make their own nourishing face masks.

During this stage, women experience an accelerated metabolism, making it the optimal period for weight loss. By taking advantage of this period and engaging in more exercise or body shaping treatments, while consuming fewer high-calorie and high-fat foods, it is easier to lose weight. If feeling fatigued during work, it is beneficial to engage in appropriate exercise. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hands crossed behind the head, keeping the feet still, rotate the upper body to the left as much as possible, hold for 10 seconds, then rotate to the right, and repeat this exercise 5-10 times. Place the hands on the sides of the waist, legs straight. Bend the upper body forward as much as possible, rotating left and right around the waist. Repeat this exercise slowly. These exercises can help slim the waist. Finally, for leg exercises, stand with feet shoulder-width apart, bend the right knee, bend the upper body forward as much as possible, and place fingertips on the ground. Extend the left leg and move it half a step backward, with the left toe pointing outward. Lift the left leg as high as possible, hold for 5 seconds at the highest point, then lower the left leg and repeat the above steps with the right leg.

Stage 3: Maintaining a Good Heart and Spirit

During days 14 to 21, women's skin condition becomes unstable. Although the complexion may still be good, sebum secretion increases, leading to oily skin and increased melanin activity, making it prone to pigmentation. It is important to pay attention to sun protection and engage in whitening treatments. Women with weak spleen and blood may experience a slower metabolism and slower weight loss, and may also experience water retention, resulting in a rounder face. To prevent edema, it is recommended to engage in more exercise and sweating, such as jogging and climbing stairs, as well as leg massages. Women tend to have a good appetite during this stage, so it is important to control diet and avoid overeating to prevent weight gain.

During this stage, women may experience greater emotional fluctuations, resulting in slower thinking and decreased responsiveness, and may easily feel sad, worried, and restless. It is important to maintain a pleasant mood, eat regularly and in moderation, avoid staying up late, and maintain a regular daily routine.

Stage 4: Relaxation

During days 21 to 28, women's physical and mental condition becomes unstable. Sebum secretion increases, resulting in oily skin, acne, and roughness. Some people may have sensitive skin, making them prone to allergies, sunburn, or frostbite. Therefore, it is important to protect the skin, cleanse the face well, ensure adequate hydration, and allow the skin to rest.

Women in this stage may experience greater emotional fluctuations and be more prone to temper tantrums. It is important to regulate one's emotions. Listening to gentle music or taking a warm bath can help relax the body and mind and relieve stress.

Metabolism slows down during this stage, and when in a bad mood, women tend to indulge in overeating and drinking, which can easily lead to obesity. Therefore, it is advisable for women in this stage to stay at home as much as possible and stay away from fast food and snacks.
