Dysmenorrhea is a very painful thing, so what are the causes of dysmenorrhea? What methods can be used to treat dysmenorrhea and what traditional Chinese medicine remedies can be used? Let's take a look together with the editor!

Causes of Dysmenorrhea in Women

1. Menarche

Girls in puberty will experience slight abdominal pain and backache during menstruation, or feel a bit sleepy. These are normal physiological reactions.

However, if the pain is unbearable, the complexion is pale, the hands and feet are cold, and there is nausea and vomiting, it belongs to "dysmenorrhea" in medical terms, and the cause of dysmenorrhea should be investigated in a timely manner.

2. Poor development of the uterus

In the 1-2 years after menarche, dysmenorrhea may occur due to poor development of the uterus, narrow cervical canal causing poor outflow of menstrual blood, abnormal uterine position, or excessive uterine contractions during menstruation.

3. Mental stress

Some girls feel nervous and afraid of abdominal pain when their menstruation is approaching, which can actually lead to dysmenorrhea.

These individuals need to eliminate their fear of menstruation and relax their emotions in order to alleviate dysmenorrhea.

4. Genetic factors

If the mother has dysmenorrhea, her daughter is also likely to experience dysmenorrhea.

Harms of Dysmenorrhea in Women

1. Impairment of learning and work

Severe abdominal pain before or during menstruation makes it difficult to sit or lie comfortably, severely affecting work, study, and daily life. Bed rest is necessary, accompanied by lower back pain, cold sweats, cold limbs, and fatigue.

2. Disharmony in sexual life

Dysmenorrhea can cause a gradual decrease in the number of superficial cells and secretions in the vagina, leading to vaginal atrophy, dryness, and discomfort, resulting in unpleasant sexual experiences. Women with dysmenorrhea are prone to decreased sexual desire, poor sexual performance, and conditions such as uterine inflammation after marriage.

3. Prolonged infertility

56% of women with infertility also have dysmenorrhea, and it has been found that once dysmenorrhea is alleviated, the chance of spontaneous pregnancy increases.

4. Accelerated aging

Women with dysmenorrhea have imbalanced qi and blood, and their bodies have abnormal levels of free radicals, which leads to premature aging compared to normal women by 5 years overall.

Especially during menstruation, women with dysmenorrhea often have dull complexion, dry skin, and are prone to facial problems such as pigmentation and acne, which are invisible culprits.

5. Gynecological diseases

Dysmenorrhea is an external manifestation of the interaction between stagnant qi, blood stasis, and phlegm-dampness in the uterus. If not treated in a timely manner, it can induce various gynecological diseases.

6. May cause miscarriage

Once the uterus, the "warm bed" for the fetus, has problems, it is prone to miscarriage.

Women with more than five years of history of dysmenorrhea have a 2.65 times higher rate of fetal hypoxia compared to women without a history of dysmenorrhea.

The perinatal mortality rate (referring to the period from 28 weeks of pregnancy to one week after delivery) is 4.7 times higher in women with dysmenorrhea compared to women without a history of dysmenorrhea.
