How to Alleviate Dysmenorrhea Caused by Sensitivity to Cold

January 23, 2024

Dysmenorrhea has congenital and acquired factors. Some women are naturally more sensitive to cold and are more prone to dysmenorrhea in the same environment as others. What should we do if we have dysmenorrhea due to sensitivity to cold?

What are the symptoms of dysmenorrhea?

1. Weight gain

Women with dysmenorrhea tend to gain weight, especially those with a naturally cold constitution who often have cold limbs.

In order to maintain their physiological functions, fat acts as a protector for the uterus. The colder the uterus is, the more fat the body needs to store, leading to weight gain.

2. Menstrual pain

This is accompanied by symptoms such as irregular menstruation and abnormal vaginal discharge. Patients usually experience bloating in the lower abdomen before menstruation, dark purple menstrual blood, and severe menstrual pain that is difficult to bear.

3. Infertility

Dysmenorrhea-induced infertility is a significant factor among all causes of infertility. Although it may seem subtle, it does have a significant impact.

Dang Gui

What foods should be eaten to alleviate dysmenorrhea?

1. Dang Gui

Dang Gui is known as the "holy medicine for blood". Slice Dang Gui into thin pieces and boil it in water or make it into tea by steeping 5-10 grams of Dang Gui. It can also be added in small amounts to chicken or meat stew.

2. Donkey-hide gelatin

Take 1 gram of high-quality Donkey-hide gelatin, crush it, and add 2 teaspoons of yellow wine. Put it in a steamer with a small amount of brown sugar. When the sugar melts, remove it from the steamer and add a few drops of wine.

3. Motherwort

Put 75 grams of motherwort, 6 red dates, and 200 grams of lean meat in a pot. After the water boils, simmer on low heat for 2 hours, add salt, and then it can be consumed.

4. Abalone

Abalone is nourishing and can nourish the yin, beautify the skin, clear the liver, and improve vision. It is the best tonic for women, so women with dysmenorrhea should often make abalone dishes for themselves.

5. Medicinal wine

Take 150 grams of Dang Gui, 150 grams of Polygala tenuifolia, and 1500 grams of sweet wine. Cut the Dang Gui into pieces and mix it with Polygala tenuifolia. Put it in a clean container using a white cloth bag, soak it in wine, and seal it.

After 7 days, it can be taken out, remove the residue, and keep it for later use. Drink it warm every night, as much as needed, without interruption. When the wine is used up, make it again according to the method. It functions to promote blood circulation and regulate qi and blood. It is suitable for women with irregular menstruation or insufficient qi and blood.
