Bacterial Vaginosis: Symptoms and Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatments

January 12, 2024

Bacterial vaginosis, also known as nonspecific vaginitis and Gardnerella vaginitis, can be transmitted through sexual contact, public baths, and bathing tubs. So what are the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis? Today, I will introduce several traditional Chinese medicine treatments for vaginitis.

Transmission of bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by bacterial transmission. The ways in which bacterial vaginosis can be transmitted include sexual intercourse, public baths, bathing tubs, swimming pools, toilets, clothing, instruments, and dressings.

Symptoms of bacterial vaginosis

1. pH value is higher than normal, ranging from 5.0 to 5.5.

2. Vaginal discharge is gray or gray-green, homogeneous, with a pasty consistency and may contain many bubbles.

3. There is a fishy odor. The odor worsens after menstruation or sexual intercourse, and the same odor may be present on the genitals of sexual partners.

A small number of individuals with bacterial vaginosis may experience symptoms such as itching of the external genitalia, vaginal burning sensation, or pain during sexual intercourse.

【Precautions in daily life】

1. Advocate showering and avoid using public baths

Due to the strong survival ability of Trichomonas in the external environment, the temperature of around 40°C in the bath is the most suitable temperature for its growth, making cross-infection easily possible. The bathing tub at home should also be cleaned after use. Try not to use squat toilets in public restrooms when defecating. Do not borrow other people's underwear or swimsuits. Avoid swimming in poorly disinfected swimming pools.

2. Spouses with genital Trichomonas infection

If one spouse has genital Trichomonas infection, sexual activity should be reduced or avoided. Use condoms during sexual intercourse.

3. Wash personal underwear with separate utensils

The patient's underwear and towels should be boiled and disinfected.
