Sleeping Habits to Avoid: Harmful Practices for a Restful Night

January 6, 2024

One-third of a person's life is spent sleeping, so if you have bad habits while sleeping, it can be very harmful to your body. Especially for women, the following habits should be absolutely prohibited.

1. Getting angry before bed

Getting angry before bed can increase heart rate, cause rapid breathing, and make it difficult to fall asleep due to racing thoughts.

2. Eating a heavy meal before bed

Eating too much before bed will put extra strain on the stomach and intestines to digest the food. A full stomach will continuously stimulate the brain. When the brain is stimulated, it is difficult for a person to fall asleep peacefully, as Traditional Chinese Medicine says, "If the stomach is not harmonious, one cannot sleep well."

3. Drinking tea before bed

Tea contains substances such as caffeine, which can stimulate the central nervous system and make a person feel excited. If you drink tea before bed, especially strong tea, the central nervous system will be even more stimulated, making it difficult for a person to fall asleep.

4. Intense exercise

Engaging in intense physical activity before bed will cause the nerve cells in the brain that control muscle movement to be in a highly excited state. This excitement will not calm down in a short period of time, making it difficult for a person to fall asleep quickly. Therefore, it is best to keep the body calm before bed, but some light activities like walking are also acceptable.
