Assessing Physical Fitness: Observing the Body's Vital Signs

December 16, 2023

1. Look at the ears:

Nowadays, people's physical fitness is getting worse. People's ears are becoming smaller and more stiff, and their shapes have become somewhat deformed. It is rare to see round, plump, and full ears in children and young people. However, these large ears are still common among the elderly, which indicates that the physical fitness of people in the past was clearly stronger than that of modern people.

In addition to looking at the shape of the ears, young people should also observe their condition. It mainly depends on the color, presence of spots, and whether there is any pain. If the ears are light pink, glossy, spotless, wrinkle-free, and full, it indicates sufficient Qi and blood. However, if the ears are dull, lack luster, it indicates insufficient Qi and blood. If the ears shrink, become dry, have spots, and multiple wrinkles, it indicates that the kidney function is starting to decline, and attention should be paid to it.

2. Look at the skin:

The skin should have a white and pink color, be glossy, elastic, wrinkle-free, and spotless in order to indicate sufficient Qi and blood. On the other hand, rough, dull, dark, yellow, white, blue, red, or the appearance of spots on the skin indicate poor physical condition and insufficient Qi and blood.

3. Look at the hair:

The hair should be black, thick, and smooth to indicate sufficient Qi and blood. Dry, hair loss, yellow hair, white hair, and split ends indicate insufficient Qi and blood.

4. Look at the eyes:

When looking at the eyes, we are actually observing the color of the sclera. There is a saying "The eyes become yellow with age", which actually refers to the sclera becoming cloudy, yellowish, and having bloodshot veins, indicating insufficient Qi and blood. If the eyes can be opened wide at any time, it indicates sufficient Qi and blood. On the other hand, if there are large eye bags, dry eyes, or heavy eyelids, it indicates insufficient Qi and blood.

5. Feel the temperature of the hands:

If the hands are warm throughout the year, it indicates sufficient Qi and blood. If the palms are hot, sweating, or cold, it indicates insufficient Qi and blood.

6. Look at the fingertips:

Regardless of children or adults, if the fingertips are flat, weak, or thin, it indicates insufficient Qi and blood. If the fingertips are plump, with plenty of flesh and elasticity, it indicates sufficient Qi and blood.

7. Look at the veins:

If you see veins on an adult's index finger, it indicates poor digestion since childhood, and this condition has continued into adulthood. People with this condition have weak constitution and deficiency of both Qi and blood. If veins are seen on the little finger, it indicates insufficient kidney Qi. If there are many deep lines below the palm, close to the wrist crease, it indicates poor nutrition in childhood, weak constitution, and insufficient Qi and blood. In adulthood, women with this condition are prone to gynecological diseases, while men are prone to conditions such as enlarged prostate and gout.

8. Look at the lunula on the nails:

In normal circumstances, except for the little finger, all fingers should have a lunula. On the thumb, the lunula should occupy 1/4 to 1/5 of the nail area, while on the other fingers, it should not exceed 1/5. If there is no lunula on the fingers or only on the thumb, it indicates excessive coldness in the body, poor circulation function, and insufficient Qi and blood. If there are excessive or large lunulas, it indicates a susceptibility to hyperthyroidism, hypertension, and other diseases.

9. Look at the longitudinal lines on the nails:

These lines only appear on adult hands and not on children. When longitudinal lines appear on adult fingernails, it is a warning sign that the body is deficient in Qi and blood, and has been overdrawn, which is a sign of aging.

10. Look at the gums:

This is mainly observed in adults, not very obvious in children. Gum recession indicates insufficient Qi and blood. If you notice that the gaps between teeth are getting larger and food is getting stuck more easily, it is a sign that the body is deteriorating and aging is accelerating.

11. Look at sleep:

If adults fall asleep quickly, sleep deeply, breathe evenly, and wake up naturally, it indicates sufficient Qi and blood. On the other hand, difficulty falling asleep, easy awakening, frequent urination at night, deep breathing, or snoring indicate blood deficiency.

12. Look at exercise:

If you experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, and difficulty recovering after exercise, it indicates insufficient Qi and blood. On the other hand, if you feel energetic and relaxed after exercise, it indicates good Qi and blood.
