The development of breasts during adolescence marks the beginning of maturity for girls. The protruding breasts also reflect the curves and healthy beauty that are unique to mature female bodies, and they prepare for future breastfeeding. Therefore, protecting and caring for the breasts is an important aspect of female adolescent hygiene. The following issues should be noted for breast care in girls:
1. Avoiding tight bras
The psychology of adolescent girls is subtle and complex, and shyness is one of the main psychological reactions. Some girls like to wear tight and slim underwear, which is very harmful. The main hazards are:
(1) Affects normal breast development: Tight bras directly restrict the growth of mammary ducts and alveoli.
(2) Affects physical health: Tight bras compress the internal organs of the chest, affecting lung function and heartbeats, causing damage to the cardiopulmonary system, and may lead to cardiopulmonary diseases over time.
(3) Inverted nipples: Tight bras push the nipples, which should protrude outward, into the breast tissue, causing abnormal nipple inversion. This may make breastfeeding difficult or lead to cracked nipples during breastfeeding.
2. Choosing and wearing bras
(1) Timing of wearing bras: When girls reach adolescence and their breasts are basically mature, they should wear bras in a timely manner. However, the timing of wearing bras should be determined based on body weight, breast size, etc. Wearing bras too early or too tightly can affect the normal development of the mammary glands. Generally, girls between the ages of 16 and 18, with a distance of more than 16 centimeters from the bottom of the breast to the nipple (measured with a soft ruler), can start wearing bras.
(2) Choosing the right bra: When choosing a bra, not only the style but also the texture should be considered. Cotton bras have the advantages of soft texture, strong sweat absorption, non-irritation to the skin, and good breathability, which are beneficial for protecting the breasts and avoiding skin abrasions. The bra size should be appropriate, as bras that are too large or too tight can have certain risks to breast health.
3. Exercise and fitness
Proper exercise can promote normal breast development and improve overall health. It is also the most convenient and economical way to maintain a good chest shape. It is recommended to do exercises that develop the chest and pectoral muscles every day and maintain a good posture with a straight back and abdomen.
4. Avoiding the misuse of breast enhancement drugs
According to medical research, there are no breast enhancement drugs without any side effects. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using these products. In some places, doctors prescribe oral or topical estrogen drugs to females with poor breast development during adolescence. Some people may experience some effects from these drugs, but the breasts will return to their original state after discontinuation. Most people have normal levels of endocrine hormones, and the effectiveness of medication is not good. Moreover, the use of medication can have varying degrees of side effects, such as menstrual disorders, irregular vaginal bleeding, edema, darkening of the nipples and areolas, etc. Large doses or frequent use can also promote the growth of uterine fibroids and even induce endometrial or breast cancer.
