Does running have an effect on weight loss

April 19, 2023
Running is a sport for both young and old, and now more and more people like to run to lose weight, so is there any effect of running to lose weight, and how does it achieve weight loss by affecting body fat and cholesterol?

Does running have an effect on weight loss?

Running not only controls the body fat ratio, but also helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Some studies have shown that stress is one of the causes of obesity and unhealthy cholesterol levels. And running cannot release stress to achieve weight loss, but also can promote basal metabolism and enhance calorie consumption, so it is helpful for weight loss.

What are the benefits of running for weight loss

Running is a healthy and effective way to lose weight, not only does it have no side effects but also reduces bad cholesterol and enhances the ratio of good cholesterol.

Running can reduce fat

Running can reduce the amount of body fat, but not immediately, but as a result of gradual accumulation. It has been reported that 65%-95% of the calories burned by aerobic exercise such as running are derived from body fat stored in the body. The specific percentage of calories burned depends on the aerobic conditions and the intensity of the exercise. The harder and longer you run, the more energy you need.

Running boosts metabolism

More strenuous cardiovascular workouts such as running will increase the metabolic rate at the end of the exercise. This means that the body continues to burn calories derived from fat after the end of strenuous running. Less strenuous cardiovascular workouts do not have this extended fat-burning benefit. While less intense exercise only gets energy from fat, experts recommend eliminating more fat through high-intensity running because the cumulative effect of burning fat before and after running is better.

Running reduces total cholesterol

Compared to static exercises such as weightlifting or wrestling, stage exercises such as trail running are more effective at reducing total blood cholesterol levels. Staged activities use more rapid adaptive movements and short cycles of muscle contraction, while static exercises require fewer movements but longer durations of muscle contraction. A report published in the American Journal of Lipid Research said the trial found that staged exercise lowered cholesterol levels, but static exercise did not. In addition, high-intensity exercise was more effective at reducing cholesterol numbers, so more vigorous running had a greater positive effect on cholesterol than less intense running.

Running increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL)

Running also promotes higher levels of HDL in the blood. HDL is good cholesterol because it protects the heart by diverting cholesterol out of the arteries. Studies have found that women who run more kilometers have relatively higher levels of HDL in their blood. Running 40 kilometers per week increased women's HDL levels and reduced the risk of heart disease by about 30 percent. On the other hand, men who ran 10 kilometers per week reduced their risk of heart attack by 10 percent while increasing their good cholesterol levels.
