Liuwei Dihuang Pill is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for nourishing the kidneys, but it should be taken scientifically. Random consumption can instead be harmful to health. When consuming it, certain misconceptions should be noted.

[Misconceptions in the Use of Liuwei Dihuang Pill]

Misconception 1: Lower back pain is always due to kidney deficiency

Not all "lower back pain" in males is caused by kidney deficiency. It may also be caused by diseases such as lumbar disc herniation, lumbar muscle strain, or kidney stones. It is recommended that patients with unexplained lower back pain seek medical treatment in a timely manner.

Misconception 2: Taking more has no side effects

As the saying goes, "Ten men, nine with kidney deficiency," but this is not always the case. Even if there is kidney deficiency, there is a distinction between yin and yang. Liuwei Dihuang Pill is not without side effects. The composition of the formula mainly focuses on nourishing, but long-term or excessive consumption can easily cause stagnation of the spleen and hinder the stomach, leading to loss of appetite; spleen dampness can easily cause spleen deficiency and diarrhea.

Misconception 3: Relying on Liuwei Dihuang Pill for "strengthening the body"

Many middle-aged men nowadays are sedentary, have excessive nutrition, and have a tendency to be overweight. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that overweight people tend to be damp, and dampness can hinder the spleen. Therefore, people with a tendency to be overweight should not take Liuwei Dihuang Pill for "nourishment" at will. Therefore, not all men are suitable for taking Liuwei Dihuang Pill, and self-medication should be avoided. It is necessary to be under the guidance of a physician and determine the medication and dosage based on different conditions.

[Usage and Precautions of Liuwei Dihuang Pill]

  1. The dosage, frequency, and duration of Liuwei Dihuang Pill for the treatment of kidney yin deficiency vary depending on factors such as the disease, constitution, and age.

  2. The traditional honey pill dosage for adults is 1 pill/15 grams per dose; take 2-3 times a day, and continue taking it for 2-4 weeks.

  3. For chronic diseases, most people take it twice a day, and the duration of use can be several months. Those with yin deficiency constitution are more tolerant.

  4. Currently, most people take commercially available Chinese patent medicines approved by the government. The dosage may vary slightly depending on the type of preparation, but in general, the dosage is smaller than that of traditional honey pills. Follow the instructions on the medicine label or package insert, or follow the doctor's advice.

  5. Although Liuwei Dihuang Pill has the function of nourishing and purging, it is ultimately a nourishing medicine. All nourishing medicines have the side effect of "greasiness". Long-term use can hinder the digestion and absorption of the spleen and stomach, resulting in symptoms such as greasy tongue coating, unpleasant taste in the mouth, excessive saliva or phlegm, loss of appetite, chest stuffiness, or loose stools. If these symptoms occur, the medication should be temporarily stopped. Those who already have these symptoms before taking the medicine are even more unsuitable to use this product.
