Qianzheng San is the basic formula for treating facial nerve paralysis. It uses Bai Fu Zi and Bai Jiang Can to dispel wind and phlegm and relieve spasms. It is supplemented with Quan Xie to dispel wind and stop convulsions. It is taken with hot wine and can directly reach the affected area in the head and face. The key point in clinical application is the presence of facial and eye deviation.

If Wugong, Tian Ma, Di Long, and other herbs that dispel wind, stop spasms, and promote blood circulation are added, the therapeutic effect can be enhanced. It is suitable for wind-phlegm obstruction of the meridians, such as facial nerve paralysis, trigeminal neuralgia, and migraine. It can be modified accordingly.

There have been many clinical studies on this formula. It is often used in conjunction with acupuncture and electroacupuncture. If there is excessive external pathogenic factors, Da Qin Jiao Tang or Chuan Xiong Tea can be used to disperse them. If there is long-standing stasis, Si Wu Tang or Tao Hong Si Wu Tang can be used. If there is long-standing deficiency, Bu Yang Huan Wu Tang, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang, Yu Ping Feng San, and other formulas can be used. It can also be combined with Western medicine such as methylcobalamin to nourish the nerves.

In modern times, it is mainly used to treat neurological diseases such as facial nerve paralysis, trigeminal neuralgia, post-stroke sequelae, Tourette syndrome, vascular neurogenic headaches, and migraines.

However, the formula contains toxic herbs such as Bai Fu Zi and Quan Xie. It should not be used for conditions such as qi deficiency and blood stasis, or liver wind internal stirring, which may cause facial and eye deviation or hemiplegia.
