Taboos When Eating Grapes: Avoid These Combinations for Better Health

April 7, 2024

There are many ways to eat grapes, besides making grape juice, they can also be made into some desserts. However, when eating grapes, we should know that there are many taboos and we shouldn't eat them indiscriminately.

1. Do not eat grapes with milk

Grapes contain fruit acids such as tartaric acid, malic acid, and citric acid, while milk contains a lot of protein. The fruit acids and proteins will react with each other, causing the protein to coagulate. Some components in milk will also react with vitamin C in grapes, not only affecting absorption but also harming gastrointestinal health. In severe cases, symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting may occur.

2. Do not eat grapes with seafood

Grapes contain a high amount of tannic acid, while seafood such as fish, shrimp, and crab contain abundant nutrients such as protein and calcium. If tannic acid combines with protein, it will not only reduce the nutritional value of protein but also stimulate the stomach and intestines, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Similar fruits to grapes include hawthorn, pomegranate, and persimmon.

3. Do not eat grapes with ginseng

Grapes contain a lot of tannic acid, while ginseng is rich in protein. The combination of tannic acid and protein in ginseng will form a precipitate, which will affect the absorption of ginseng and reduce its medicinal effects.
