Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedies for Appendicitis

Ingredients: 10g rhubarb, 9g mirabilite, 12g forsythia, 12g honeysuckle, 15g red vine, 10g yuan hu, 9g saussurea, 9g peach kernel, 12g moutan bark. Decoction, take one dose daily.

This remedy clears heat and promotes bowel movement, and activates blood circulation. It is suitable for appendicitis caused by damp-heat stagnation. The main symptoms include dull pain and tenderness in the lower right abdomen, continuous or intermittent pain, initial pain in the upper abdomen or around the navel, followed by pain near the Tian Shu acupoint on the right side. It may be accompanied by spasms of the abdominal skin, distension and poor appetite in the epigastrium, nausea, belching, low-grade fever, normal or constipated stool. The tongue coating may be thin white or yellow and white, and the pulse may be string-like, slippery, or thin and astringent.

[Remedy Two]

Ingredients: 12g honeysuckle, 15g dandelion, 15g purple herb, 10g white flower snake tongue grass, 10g rhubarb, 9g chinaberry, 9g moutan bark, 10g red peony, 15g polygonum. Decoction, take one dose daily.

This remedy clears heat, detoxifies, eliminates stasis, and relieves pain. It is suitable for appendicitis caused by heat accumulation. The main symptoms include abdominal pain and tenderness, with more obvious pressure pain in the lower right abdomen, rebound tenderness, spasms of the abdominal skin, or palpable masses. It may be accompanied by body heat, thirst, reduced appetite, epigastric distension, nausea, vomiting, constipation or loose stools, short and red urination, yellow and less saliva or thick and greasy tongue coating, and string-like or slippery pulse.

[Remedy Three]

Ingredients: 10g honeysuckle, 12g forsythia, 9g scutellaria, 9g raw rehmannia, 6g licorice, 10g rhubarb, 12g purple herb, 9g wild chrysanthemum, 9g dandelion, 30g winter melon seeds. Decoction, take one dose daily.

This remedy clears heat, detoxifies, promotes bowel movement, and drains pus. It is suitable for appendicitis caused by suppurative dispersal. The main symptoms include severe abdominal pain spreading from the lower right abdomen to the entire abdomen, severe pain, urgent abdomen, tenderness throughout the abdomen, rebound tenderness, high fever that does not subside or alternating chills and fever, red face and eyes, dry lips and foul breath, nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, constipation or loose and foul-smelling stools, frequent and short urination resembling dribbling, red and dry tongue with yellow and rough coating or thick and greasy coating, and string-like, slippery or thin pulse.

[Remedy Four]

Ingredients: 60g wild chrysanthemum, 15-60g purslane, 30g purple herb. Choose one of them, decoct in water, divide into 3-4 servings, take one dose daily.

This remedy can be used for acute appendicitis.

[Remedy Five]

Ingredients: 18-45g white peony, 6-12g licorice, 10-15g bitter orange peel, 10-15g moutan bark, 10-15g phellodendron. Decoction, divide into 3 servings, take one dose daily. Double the dosage for severe cases.

This remedy is suitable for acute and chronic appendicitis.

[Remedy Six]

Ingredients: 30g yarrow, 30g pagoda tree flower, 15g licorice, 30g fresh raw rehmannia, 20 roots of green onion. Decoction, divide into three servings, take one dose daily.

This remedy is suitable for acute appendicitis.

[Remedy Seven]

Ingredients: 60g garlic, a small amount of mirabilite, a small amount of rhubarb. First, grind the garlic and mirabilite into a paste and apply it to the painful area of the abdomen (first apply a layer of Vaseline locally to prevent skin damage). After 2 hours, remove the paste and mix rhubarb powder with vinegar for external application. Apply for 6-8 hours. This completes one treatment. If necessary, it can be repeated after several hours.
