The tonsils are the part of our body where the throat and esophagus connect. If they become inflamed, it not only affects our ability to eat properly, but also makes our speech unclear, causing inconvenience in our daily lives. So what should we do if our tonsils become inflamed? Let's take a look at some solutions!

What to do if your tonsils become inflamed

1. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

1) Wind-heat invasion

Symptoms: Gradually intensifying pain in the throat, difficulty swallowing, increased pain when swallowing or coughing, swollen and red tonsils. Also accompanied by fever, chills, headache, nasal congestion, and cough with phlegm. The tongue is red with a thin white or slightly yellow coating, and the pulse is floating and rapid.

Chinese patent medicine:

1) Lingqiao Jiedu Wan: Take 9 grams each time, twice a day, with warm water.

2) Qingyan Pian: Take 4-6 tablets each time, three times a day, with warm water.

Diet therapy:

1) Grind 100 grams of radish, 50 grams of olives, and 15 grams of dandelion together. Put them in a small cloth bag, add water and simmer for 20 minutes, then take out the juice. Cook the juice with 50 grams of rice to make a thin porridge. Take it twice a day.

2) Take 250 grams of white radish, 5 grams of Qingguo (crushed), and 20 grams of honeysuckle. Put them in a gauze bag and cook with radish to make a soup. Add salt and monosodium glutamate to taste. Take it twice a day.

External treatment:

1) Blow medicine: Blow ice borax powder or pearl yellow powder on the affected area.

2) Oral administration: Take Tie Di Wan or Run Hou Wan, Hou Zheng Wan, or Liu Shen Wan to clear heat, detoxify, and reduce swelling in the throat.

2. Antibiotic treatment

For acute tonsillitis, the use of penicillin or other antibiotics effective against gram-positive bacteria or anti-inflammatory drugs can yield good results. Combined with proper rest and nutrition, recovery can generally be achieved within about a week.

3. Western medicine treatment

If there is fever and severe systemic symptoms, bed rest is recommended. In cases of high fever (above 39°C) in children, physical cooling measures such as applying cool water bags or ice packs to the head, neck, armpits, and groin should be used. Soft or semi-liquid, nutritious, light, and easily digestible food should be consumed, along with plenty of water. Avoid eating spicy foods. Rinse the mouth with saline water after meals. In the early stages, compound Xin Nuo Ming can be used. For adults, take 2 grams initially, followed by 1 gram each time, two to three times a day orally. For children, give 50 milligrams per kilogram of body weight initially, followed by 25 milligrams each time, two to three times a day orally.
