Mice injected with 1g/kg of extract showed prostration and increased respiration, while 5g/kg resulted in respiratory distress, seizures, and death.

It is used in rural areas of the production area to poison fish and kill insects, and its toxicity to insect larvae is equivalent to that of arsenic.


Medicinal formulas using Kutanzi

1. Treatment for scabies and lichen: Kutanzi, Sichuan pepper, bitter sophora, goosefoot, coptis, and solitary kidney. Grind together and apply with scented oil. (Sichuan Herbal Medicine Record)

2. Treatment for qi pain: Grind Kutanzi fruit into powder, take three to five minutes each time, and drink with boiled water. (Guizhou Folk Medicine)

4. Treatment for hand and foot pain: Two liang of Kutanzi. Boil in water and drink. (Hunan Herbal Medicine Record)

5. Treatment for joint pain: Two liang of fresh Kutanzi fruit, two liang of fresh maple pear, one liang each of mountain pepper, star anise, melia, eleutherococcus root bark, and selaginella, five qian of achyranthes, two qian of notoginseng, and one pig's foot as a reference.
