What Foods Are Good for Stomach Ulcers?

Seaweed

Seaweed is rich in vitamin A, with a content several times higher than that of cabbage. It also contains various minerals such as iodine, calcium, and zinc. Therefore, regularly consuming seaweed has a good therapeutic effect on patients with stomach ulcers. In Japan, many patients with stomach ulcers often eat seaweed, which can effectively prevent and treat stomach ulcers.

Lotus Root

Lotus root is rich in starch, which can promote gastrointestinal motility and accelerate the healing of stomach ulcers.

Pumpkin

The "Compendium of Materia Medica" records that "pumpkin is warm in nature, sweet in taste, and enters the spleen and stomach meridians." It can tonify the middle burner, benefit qi, have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, and alleviate pain. The abundant pectin in pumpkin can protect the stomach from irritation and reduce the occurrence of ulcers. Pumpkin can be used to make porridge or soup to nourish the intestines and stomach.

Cabbage

Cabbage is flat in nature, sweet in taste, non-toxic, and enters the stomach and kidney meridians. Cabbage is recommended as one of the best vegetables by the World Health Organization and is known as a natural "stomach vegetable". Its nutrients not only have anti-ulcer effects, protect and repair the gastric mucosa, but also maintain the vitality of gastric cells and reduce the chance of lesions. People with stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers can drink cabbage juice every day, and it can also be mixed with honey for consumption, which can promote ulcer healing.

Sweet Potato

The "Compendium of Materia Medica Supplement" records that "sweet potato can tonify the middle burner, warm the stomach, and nourish the five viscera." Eating sweet potatoes in cold weather can invigorate the qi, aid digestion, and promote intestinal cleansing, as well as help with weight loss. However, sweet potatoes have a high starch content and are converted into glucose after consumption, so they are not suitable for diabetics.

Honey

Drinking honey is good for the stomach. Honey has the effects of tonifying the spleen and stomach, moistening the intestines, moistening the lungs, and detoxification. It contains nutrients such as glucose, fructose, organic acids, yeast, various vitamins, and trace elements, which can protect the ulcer surface of the gastric mucosa.

Symptoms of Stomach Ulcers

1. Peeling of Gastric Mucosa

In the early stage of stomach ulcers, due to the damage to the stomach, the gastric mucosa will be destroyed and peeled off. Therefore, patients with stomach ulcers often feel hungry even before mealtime, causing hunger pangs. If they feel hungry but haven't eaten, they may feel discomfort in the stomach. The whole body feels weak, and some patients may wake up hungry in the middle of the night and have difficulty falling back asleep.
