  2. Gansui Banxia Tang (from "Jin Kui Yao Lue") is used to treat those with faint pulse who want to defecate but find relief instead, and experience continuous firmness and fullness below the heart.

  3 pieces of Gansui (large), 12 pieces of Banxia, 5 pieces of Shaoyao, and 1 piece of Licorice (roasted). Boil in water, mix with honey, and take it orally. Gansui in this formula promotes diuresis and is the main medicinal herb.

  3. San Hua Shen You Wan (from "Da Tong Fang Ji Xue") is used to treat abdominal distention and swelling caused by water retention.

  15g Gansui, 15g Euphorbia, 15g Flos Inulae (fried with vinegar), 60g Hedyotis diffusa, 30g rhubarb (finely ground), and 3g light powder.

  Grind into powder and add water to form pills the size of a mung bean. Take 5 pills initially with warm water, 3 times a day, gradually increasing the dosage until the symptoms improve. Gansui in this formula promotes diuresis and disperses swelling and masses.

  [Contraindications of Gansui]

  When using Gansui, you can use it alone or in combination with other Chinese herbs such as Hedyotis diffusa, Flos Inulae, Euphorbia, Cinnabar, scallions, purple Euphorbia, white mustard seeds, melon stem, and alum. Gansui should not be taken by those with qi deficiency and yin injury;

  It should also be avoided by those with weak spleen and stomach function, pregnant women, and should not be used together with Licorice.
