Cautionary Notes: Honey's Incompatibilities for Optimal Consumption

February 16, 2024

Honey is a commonly used health product in our daily life. It is rich in nutritional value, has a good taste, and can be consumed in various ways. However, it is important to note that honey should not be consumed with the following things!

1. Do not mix with soy milk

Soy milk has a higher protein content than milk, while honey mainly contains about 75% glucose and fructose, as well as a small amount of organic acids. When mixed together, the organic acids react with the protein to form denatured precipitates that cannot be absorbed by the human body.

2. Do not eat with tofu

Tofu is sweet and salty in taste, cold in nature, and can clear heat and stop bleeding. Eating it together with honey can easily cause diarrhea. Moreover, the various enzymes in honey and the minerals, plant proteins, and organic acids in tofu do not promote favorable biochemical reactions in the human body when consumed together.

3. Do not eat with Chinese chives

Chinese chives are rich in vitamin C, which can be easily oxidized and lose its effectiveness when in contact with minerals such as copper and iron ions in honey. In addition, honey has a laxative effect, while Chinese chives are rich in fiber and can cause diarrhea when consumed together.

4. Do not dissolve in boiling water

Honey contains abundant enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. If dissolved in boiling water, it not only loses its natural color, aroma, and taste, but also to some extent, destroys its nutritional components. The correct way to consume honey is to dissolve it in warm water at a temperature of 40℃-50℃.

5. Do not eat with onions

Honey has complex nutritional components. When eaten together with onions, the organic acids and enzymes in honey react with sulfur-containing amino acids in onions, which can lead to harmful biochemical reactions or the production of toxic substances, stimulating the gastrointestinal tract and causing diarrhea.
