The main component of Xue Shan Yi Zhi Hao is Aconitine.

Also known as: Fu Zi Jing

Molecular formula: C34H47NO11

Molecular weight: 645.74

Xue Shan Yi Zhi Hao

It is a kind of diterpene alkaloid. It exists in various plants of the Aconitum genus, such as Aconitum carmichaelii, Aconitum kusnezoffii, Aconitum austroyunnanense, and Aconitum sinomontanum. It is a colorless transparent crystal with a melting point of 204℃ and a specific rotation of +19° (chloroform). It is soluble in chloroform, benzene, ethanol, etc. Aconitine is an ester that easily hydrolyzes to lose one molecule of acetic acid, thereby reducing its toxicity. Further hydrolysis removes one molecule of benzoic acid to produce aconine, which is only 1/2000 to 1/4000 as toxic as aconitine.

Traditional Chinese medicine has found that the toxicity of the side root of Aconitum (the root of Aconitum carmichaelii) is reduced after processing, which may be related to the reduced toxicity of aconitine after hydrolysis. Aconitine has analgesic effects on various neuralgia and gout, but due to its high toxicity, it is no longer used clinically. Chinese medicine and folk medicine widely use various Aconitum species to relieve fever and pain, and treat rheumatism and stubborn joint pain. However, since Aconitum species often contain aconitine, caution must be exercised when using them. The lethal dose of aconitine (oral) is 0.2 milligrams, and the lethal dose is 2.5 milligrams. Chinese medicine uses mung beans or honeysuckle to detoxify.
