Da Chai Hu Tang is a traditional Chinese herbal formula, mainly made from Chai Hu, Huang Qin, Ban Xia, and other Chinese herbs. It has the functions of soothing the liver and stomach, and regulating qi and blood. It can be used clinically to treat cholelithiasis.
【Formula of Da Chai Hu Tang】
Compositions: 12g Chai Hu, 9g Huang Qin, Shaoyao, Ban Xia, Zhi Shi respectively, 15g Sheng Jiang, 4 pieces of Da Zao, 6g Da Huang.
Usage: Take the above ingredients, add 2 liters of water, boil and reduce to 1.5 liters, remove impurities, then continue boiling. Take 250ml warm decoction, three times a day.
Efficacy: It has the effects of relieving exterior syndrome and interior syndrome, soothing the liver and stomach, and regulating qi and blood. It is commonly used in clinical practice for symptoms such as alternating fever and chills, distending pain in the chest and hypochondrium, resistance to pressure in the epigastric region, constipation or diarrhea, and a pulse that is wiry and forceful.
【Usage of Da Chai Hu Tang】
1. For patients with blood stasis, add Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan.
2. For intestinal abscess, add Da Huang Mu Dan Pi Tang.
For patients with concurrent fever, add Yin Hua, Pu Gong Ying, and Shan Zhi; For severe constipation, add Xuan Ming Fen (dissolved); For vomiting, add Dai Zhe Shi and Zhu Ru.
【Contraindications of Da Chai Hu Tang】
1. Patients with dry yellow tongue coating or red tongue, should avoid using it.
2. Patients with pure Shaoyang syndrome with half exterior and half interior symptoms, or pure Yangming visceral excess syndrome without Shaoyang syndrome, should all avoid using it.
3. Patients with weakness and weak pulse should avoid using it.
