The Medicinal Herb Xueshan Yizhihao: High Value and Toxicity

The Chinese medicinal herb Xueshan Yizhihao has high medicinal value, with its main component being aconitine. It is highly toxic when taken in excess, so it should not be consumed in large amounts. However, it has a good effect in treating bruises and injuries when applied externally.


【Preparation Method】

Soak the herb in water for 7 days, changing the water twice a day. Slice it when it becomes soft in the center and steam it in a steamer for 2-3 hours. Take it out and dry it. Then mix it with hot lard until fully cooked, or wrap it in wet paper and heat it next to charcoal fire until cooked. Remove the paper, soak it in child's urine for a day and night, then take it out, rinse it clean and dry it.

【Cultivation Techniques】

Xueshan Yizhihao commonly grows on shady slopes in alpine grassland areas at an altitude of 3000-4000m. It is best cultivated in fertile and loose black humus soil.

It can be propagated by seeds or root sprouts. Seed propagation: sow in early May, scatter the seeds and keep the soil moist. The seedlings can be transplanted after 1 year.

Root sprout propagation: cut off the top 1/3 of the roots and bury the root sprouts in the soil with a row spacing of 21cm x 21cm, 4-6cm deep, in November or before snowfall.

Weeds should be removed regularly during the growth period. To promote good plant growth, organic fertilizer or wood ash can be applied once a year.


【Medicinal Value】

1. Pain relief

This herb is pungent, warm, and has a strong dispersing and pain-relieving effect. It can dispel wind and dampness, invigorate blood circulation, and is especially good at relieving pain. It is commonly used for rheumatism, neuralgia, toothache, bruises, postoperative pain, and cancer pain. It can be taken as powder, applied externally as a soaked wine, or made into an injection.

2. Treatment of ulcers, swelling, and venomous bites

This herb can counteract toxins, promote blood circulation, and relieve pain. It can be used externally as a soaked wine to treat ulcers, swelling, venomous insect and snake bites, bee stings, etc.

【Contraindications】

Although Xueshan Yizhihao has remarkable and immediate effects in treating bruises, swelling, and rheumatic redness, especially various internal and external pain, improper use can be fatal due to its high toxicity. There have been cases of poisoning and death due to accidental ingestion or excessive consumption of this herb.
