For many young people, roadside stalls are a gathering place for delicious food, especially in the summer. Meeting up with friends at a beer stall on the roadside, drinking beer and eating barbecue is a great pleasure. However, behind these tempting delicacies, there is a hidden "danger".
1. Boiled Corn
Some corn vendors add sweet corn flavorings when boiling corn to enhance its aroma. Sweet corn flavorings mainly consist of edible spices and flavoring additives, which can emit a fragrant aroma at room temperature. They are harmless. However, excessive use can damage the digestive system. Long-term consumption of foods containing corn flavorings can damage the liver, impair its detoxification function, affect the normal secretion of digestive enzymes in the intestines and stomach, reduce the absorption capacity of the small intestine, and cause loss of appetite. In addition, to prevent corn from spoiling when boiled for too long, some vendors also add preservatives.
2. Stinky Tofu
Stinky tofu smells bad but tastes good. Some people stay away from it, while others consider it a delicacy. Stinky tofu is a fermented soy product. During the production process, it not only produces certain decaying substances but is also prone to bacterial contamination. From a health perspective, it is better to eat less.
Studies have shown that soy products produced during fermentation can produce amines such as methylamine, putrescine, and cadaverine, as well as hydrogen sulfide. They have a special smell and strong volatility, and excessive consumption is not beneficial to health. In addition, when amine substances are stored for a long time, they may react with nitrites to form strong carcinogens such as nitrosamines. Some stinky tofu contains excessive iron, which is very harmful to the liver. The odor substances in stinky tofu may be the result of protein decay, so it is possible that it can cause cancer.
3. Jianbing Guozi
Jianbing Guozi is thin and crispy. It can be stored for a long time. It may contain a large amount of alum, which has an effective preservative effect. However, long-term or excessive consumption can damage the brain and nerve cells, leading to symptoms such as brain atrophy and dementia.
Some vendors use inferior oil to reduce costs. If you eat food fried in ditch oil or reused oil produced from the oil used in frying, it is easy to cause cancer. Trans fatty acids produced by the frying process can also lead to hyperlipidemia. The hidden salt in the sauce and pickles in Jianbing Guozi can cause high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and so on.
4. Roasted Sweet Potato
Toxic substances are produced during the charcoal roasting process. Roadside roasted sweet potatoes are roasted using burning charcoal. The roasting process is not only polluted by toxic substances in the burning charcoal, but the roasting stove also lacks dust and sanitation facilities, which is contaminated by various factors. When coal burns, it produces a large amount of sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide, as well as various harmful substances. Some coal also contains toxic substances such as radioactive materials and arsenic. Eating these roasted sweet potatoes can cause chronic arsenic poisoning, which can damage the digestive and respiratory systems.
5. Fried Dough Sticks
During the process of frying dough sticks, a large amount of harmful substances are produced. Especially, the repeated high-temperature heating of the oil will produce various harmful substances and gases. For example, dimers and trimers, the toxicity of these substances is very strong. Eating them will cause lead to accumulate in the body, and when it reaches a certain amount, it will cause lead poisoning symptoms.
However, many unscrupulous street vendors often use ditch oil to fry food. Some vendors even use "garbage oil" discarded by fast-food restaurants to make fried dough sticks.
6. Stir-Fried Snails
As we all know, snails are aquatic products in life, so they have a large number of parasites. Especially if the snails consumed come from sewage, they will have even more parasites. In the hot and humid environment of summer, it provides favorable conditions for the growth and reproduction of intestinal pathogens. Snails usually carry lung flukes, and frying them usually does not kill all the lung fluke larvae in the snails.
Generally, roadside stalls cannot guarantee the source and cleanliness of the food. Once you eat unclean snails or undercooked snails, the larvae of the lung fluke will enter the human body and "wander" everywhere, invading the lungs, liver, brain, abdomen, and other organs, causing inflammation. In severe cases, it can cause organ abscesses and other injuries.
After reading all of the above, would you still dare to eat food from roadside stalls? For the sake of your own safety, I suggest that you keep your eyes open and not be tempted by the so-called "delicious food" in front of you, so as not to affect your health.
