Crab Meat and Dietary Taboos: What Not to Eat with Crabs

January 23, 2024

Crab meat is delicious and nutritious, highly favored by the public. However, due to the cold nature of crabs, it is important to pay attention to their dietary taboos. So what should not be eaten with crabs?

1. Persimmon

Persimmon and crab are both cold foods. Eating them together will intensify their cold nature, which can harm the spleen and stomach. Those with weak constitution and coldness should be particularly cautious.

In addition, persimmons contain tannic acid, while crab meat is rich in protein. When combined, tannic acid protein forms, which is not easily absorbed and hinders digestion. This can lead to symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

2. Pomegranate

If crabs are consumed together with pomegranates, which contain a high amount of tannic acid, it not only reduces the nutritional value of the protein, but also combines the calcium in crabs with tannic acid to form a new indigestible substance. This can stimulate the stomach and intestines, causing symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.

3. Pear

Pears are cool in nature. Eating them with cold crabs can damage the spleen and stomach, leading to indigestion. Those with weak spleen and stomach should pay special attention.

4. Kiwi

Crabs contain compounds with pentavalent arsenic, which are harmless to the human body. However, if consumed together with kiwis, which are rich in vitamin C, the pentavalent arsenic can be converted into trivalent arsenic, which is highly toxic like arsenic. Prolonged consumption can lead to symptoms of poisoning such as cramps and nausea.
