Many moms are now in a panic, as they have always believed that Strong Loquat Syrup is effective for cough relief. So why is it now banned? In this article, we will provide a detailed explanation.

Introduction to Strong Loquat Syrup

Strong Loquat Syrup is a non-prescription medicine used for internal medicine cough treatment. Its main ingredients include loquat leaf, poppy husk, bai bu, bai qian, sang bai pi, jie geng, and peppermint oil. The auxiliary ingredients are: sugar, honey, citric acid, essence, and preservative (sodium benzoate).

Strong Loquat Syrup is made from refined traditional Chinese medicine ingredients and is widely used by various age groups. It is a classic medicine that is safe, effective, and free from toxic side effects. So far, no adverse reactions have been reported, so consumers can use it with confidence.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Strong Loquat Syrup is used to treat long-lasting cough with little or yellow phlegm, or dry cough without phlegm caused by lung damage from phlegm-heat. In Western medicine, it can be used for acute or chronic bronchitis and other conditions diagnosed based on the above traditional Chinese medicine symptoms and clinical manifestations.

Strong Loquat Syrup has a good effect and is taken orally. The recommended dosage is 15ml, three times a day. It is advisable to take Strong Loquat Syrup half an hour before or after meals to maximize its effectiveness.

However, it is important to note that while Strong Loquat Syrup can relieve cough, it should not be taken for a long period of time. Due to the presence of poppy husk in Strong Loquat Syrup, it can be addictive if consumed for more than a week, although it usually works well for the first three days.

Can Children Take Strong Loquat Syrup for Cough Relief?

Children are better off using expectorant medications for cough relief.

Wang Yingshuo, deputy chief physician at the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, says that cough medications containing codeine are rarely used for children in pediatric clinical practice. In many cases, children's coughs do not require medication. Coughing, like fever and sneezing, is a protective reflex of the body.

Wang suggests that for infants and toddlers under 2 years old, central cough suppressant medications should not be used. If parents are concerned about their baby's discomfort, they can use physical methods such as patting on the back, suctioning phlegm, or nebulization to alleviate the symptoms.

For children over 2 years old, if the cough persists for a long time and seriously affects daily life, such as difficulty sleeping or eating, some expectorant medications that can dilute and dissolve mucus can be used to help expel phlegm.

He Wei says that among expectorant medications that do not contain codeine, ambroxol can be used for children over 2 years old, while tussilago farfara and eucalyptus oil can be used for children over 4 years old.

Dr. Wang also reminds that for children with colds, it is better to use single-component cold medications and avoid complex cold medications to prevent overlapping use with other drugs.
