Caution: Not Everyone Should Drink Mung Bean Soup

December 30, 2023

Recently, there have been cases of people becoming weaker after drinking mung bean soup in some large hospitals. This is mainly due to some people who are not suitable for drinking mung bean soup consuming it at inappropriate times. So, although mung bean soup is good, it should not be eaten casually!

Although mung bean soup has the effects of cooling off heat, nourishing qi, moisturizing the throat, and relieving thirst, it is not suitable for the following groups of people:

1. People with a cold body constitution (such as cold and weak limbs, cold and painful lower back and legs, and loose stools). Eating mung beans can worsen symptoms and even cause other diseases.

2. People who are taking various medications. The detoxification effect of mung beans comes from the combination of mung bean protein and organic phosphorus and heavy metals to form precipitates. However, these detoxification components can also react with the related components of medications, thereby reducing their effectiveness.

3. The elderly, children, and people with weak constitution. Because mung beans contain more protein than chicken, large molecule proteins need to be converted into small molecule peptides and amino acids under the action of enzymes in order to be absorbed by the body. People in this group have poor digestive function and it is difficult for them to digest mung bean protein in a short period of time, which can easily lead to indigestion and diarrhea.
