Functions and Indications of Geum japonicum

Geum japonicum, mainly using its roots as medicine, has a bitter taste and a cold nature. It has the effects of clearing heat, cooling blood, detoxifying, and promoting diuresis.

Its main indications include the treatment of cold, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, jaundice, edema in nephritis, eczema, gastric diseases, hepatitis, nephritis, and bronchitis.

Functions and Effects of Geum japonicum

1. Treatment of Lung Heat Cough

If you have a lung heat cough with repeated coughing, expectoration of yellow phlegm, accompanied by symptoms such as dry mouth, sore throat, body heat, red urine, and constipation, you can use 30 grams of Geum japonicum and 30 grams of Fritillaria cirrhosa together, decocted in water for oral administration.

2. Treatment of Furunculosis

If the furunculosis is caused by scratching and infection after prickly heat, or acute suppurative inflammation of hair follicles or sebaceous glands, you can use 60 to 120 grams of fresh Geum japonicum, decocted in water for oral administration.

Also, use a small amount of rice wine residue and an appropriate amount of fresh Geum japonicum, mash them and apply externally or decoct them for external washing.

3. Treatment of Jaundice-Type Hepatitis

If you have jaundice-type hepatitis with symptoms of fatigue, nausea, aversion to greasy food, yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, ranging from light yellow to golden yellow, you can use 60 grams of Geum japonicum, decocted in water for oral administration.

4. Treatment of Acute Otitis Media

If you have acute otitis media with ear pain, accompanied by symptoms of cold, cough, and upper respiratory tract infection, you can use fresh Geum japonicum, clean it and let it dry naturally, mash it and extract the juice, then put 3 to 4 drops into the ear, 3 to 4 times a day.

Contraindications of Geum japonicum

In many cases, Geum japonicum can be used alone, but it is best to choose different Chinese medicines according to the differences in symptoms, such as combining with Houttuynia cordata, Potentilla chinensis, Rabdosia rubescentis, Fritillaria cirrhosa, to enhance the medicinal effects of Geum japonicum.
