Compound Licorice Tablets contain opium, which is addictive. Prolonged use can lead to euphoria and gradual dependence. Upon discontinuation, symptoms such as yawning, cold sweats, runny nose, and restlessness may occur. Therefore, it is generally recommended to use them for 3-5 days and avoid long-term use.
Compound Licorice Tablets can cause water and sodium retention, leading to increased blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels. Therefore, they should be used with caution in patients with hypertension and diabetes. Additionally, opium can cause smooth muscle relaxation, resulting in difficulty in defecation and urination. Hence, patients with constipation and enlarged prostate should also use them with caution.
