Xianmao and Wujiapi Wine: A Warming and Strengthening Tonic

Xianmao and Wujiapi Wine, from "Wan Bing Hui Chun" (The Return of a Thousand Diseases), consists of Xianmao, Wujiapi, and Horny Goat Weed. Xianmao and Horny Goat Weed both have the function of nourishing the kidneys and strengthening yang, while Wujiapi can dispel wind and dampness. Therefore, this combination creates a warming and strengthening wine.
 


 

[Wine Recipe]

90g Xianmao, 90g Wujiapi, 120g Horny Goat Weed, 1200ml white wine.

[Preparation]

Soak Xianmao in rice vinegar to remove impurities and dry it. Wash Wujiapi with wine, and clean Horny Goat Weed. Grind the three ingredients together, wrap them in cloth, put them in a small wine jar, add wine, seal it, and shake it occasionally. It will be ready after seven days.

[Analysis of Efficacy]

Xianmao and Wujiapi Wine has the effects of nourishing the liver and kidneys, strengthening yang and the body, and dispelling cold and relieving stiffness. It is used to treat symptoms such as stiff waist and knees, numbness of the skin, joint discomfort, impotence, and cold uterus infertility.

Xianmao: It has the effect of warming the kidneys, dispelling cold and dampness. It is used for impotence, nocturnal emission, urinary incontinence, cold pain in the abdomen, soreness of the waist and knees, weak tendons and bones, leg cramps, and menopausal syndrome.

Wujiapi: It has the functions of dispelling wind and dampness, nourishing the liver and kidneys, strengthening tendons and bones, and promoting diuresis and reducing swelling. It is used for rheumatic diseases, weak tendons and bones, delayed development in children, physical weakness, edema, and beriberi.

Horny Goat Weed: It has a spicy and sweet taste, and it is warm. It has the functions of nourishing the kidneys, strengthening yang, and dispelling wind and dampness. It is used for impotence, dribbling urination, cramping tendons and bones, hemiplegia, weakness in the waist and knees, rheumatic pain, and numbness in the limbs.

Commonly used ingredients in this type of wine include Xianmao, Horny Goat Weed, prepared Rehmannia root, stalactite, Chinese yam, Aconitum, dodder seed, ginseng, Dipsacus asperoides, asparagus root, Achyranthes bidentata, Chinese wolfberry, dogwood fruit, raspberry, Acorus calamus, Polygala tenuifolia, longan fruit, prawns, white atractylodes, Pogostemon cablin, sea cucumber kidney, seahorse, Poria cocos, leech, deer antler, and centipede.

[Scope of Application]

It is suitable for men with kidney deficiency and impotence, women with cold uterus infertility, as well as those with stiff waist and knees, numbness of the skin, and joint discomfort.

Impotence refers to the inability of the penis to erect or maintain an erection, or the erection is not firm or lasting enough to complete sexual intercourse. The disease name can be found in "Jing Yue Quan Shu: Za Zheng Mo" and it is also known as "Yin Wei" in the "Nei Jing" section on pathogenic factors affecting the storage organs.

Impotence can be caused by stagnant liver qi, damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder, sudden fright and shock, and decline of the gate of life.
