【Pharmacological Effects of Qin Jiao】
1. Anti-inflammatory effects
Qin Jiao alkaloids have anti-inflammatory effects, which are achieved by stimulating the pituitary gland through the nervous system to increase the secretion of adrenal cortex hormones.
2. Anti-allergic effects
Qin Jiao alkaloids can significantly reduce the asthma and convulsions caused by histamine in guinea pigs, indicating anti-histamine effects.
3. Effects on the central nervous system
Qin Jiao has sedative, analgesic, antipyretic, and inhibitory effects on reflexive intestinal fluid secretion.
4. Effects on the cardiovascular system
Qin Jiao alkaloid can lower blood pressure in guinea pigs, and its hypotensive effect increases with increasing dosage, without rapid tolerance. Atropine and vagotomy cannot block this effect. Therefore, the hypotensive effect may be a direct result of cardiac inhibition.
5. Effects on glucose
Qin Jiao alkaloid can significantly increase blood glucose in rats and mice, and significantly decrease liver glycogen. This effect increases with increasing dosage. This effect may be mainly caused by the release of adrenal glands.
