Cinnabar is a type of mineral containing sulfide compounds. When consumed as a traditional Chinese medicine, it has sedative and hypnotic effects, as well as detoxification and preservation properties. In this article, I will discuss in detail the benefits of drinking cinnabar-infused wine. Let's learn more about it!

The Benefits of Drinking Cinnabar Wine

Cinnabar is also known as red lead, vermilion, or mercury sand in some regions of China. It is bright red in color with a diamond-like luster and belongs to the trigonal crystal system. Cinnabar is a compound of mercury and, when consumed, it has sedative and hypnotic effects, as well as detoxification, preservation, and antibacterial properties.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, cinnabar has a cold nature and sweet taste. It has a certain level of toxicity but is beneficial for the heart. Its main functions include calming the mind, sedating, and detoxifying. In daily life, cinnabar-infused wine can be consumed to quickly restore health in cases of oral ulcers, restlessness, palpitations, insomnia, epilepsy, convulsions, and throat pain.

Cinnabar has a long history of use in China and was primarily used as a raw material for alchemy by Taoist practitioners. It can also be made into medicinal preparations or pigments. It is recorded in traditional Chinese medical texts such as "Compendium of Materia Medica," "Wu Pu's Materia Medica," "Ben Jing Feng Yuan," and "Kai Bao's Materia Medica." The specific benefits of drinking cinnabar-infused wine are as follows:

1. Treating insomnia, epilepsy, palpitations, and restlessness

Cinnabar has a calming effect on the mind, making it suitable for patients with mental agitation. In daily life, if you experience symptoms such as irritability, decreased sleep quality, or discomfort caused by excessive internal heat, you can consume cinnabar-infused wine along with other herbs that have a calming and sedative effect, such as coptis and magnetite. For conditions caused by high fever and restlessness, cinnabar can be combined with musk and cow bezoar. For symptoms of phlegm-heat-induced epilepsy, cinnabar can be combined with calomel and pinellia to alleviate phlegm and calm the mind. For insomnia caused by blood deficiency of the heart muscle, cinnabar can be combined with rehmannia, angelica, salvia, and arborvitae seed, which nourish the blood and calm the mind.

Although cinnabar has a therapeutic effect on mental agitation, the herbal combinations needed for different causes of mental agitation vary. It is particularly important to exercise caution in cases of excessive internal heat and blood deficiency, to avoid potential health issues.

2. Treating throat pain, oral ulcers, and infected wounds

Experts suggest that cinnabar can be used externally for its detoxifying and antiseptic properties. When combined with musk, safflower, mushroom, and realgar, it is mainly used externally to treat infected wounds. When mixed with borneol, alum, or borax and blown into the throat, it has good therapeutic effects on oral ulcers and throat pain.
