Goji Berry Wine: A Prescription for Kidney and Liver Nourishment

【Prescription Name】

  Goji Berry Wine

【Prescription Composition】

  250g Goji Berries, 50g Rehmannia Glutinosa (steamed), 50g Polygonatum Sibiricum, 25g Lily Bulbs, 25g Polygala Tenuifolia (processed)

【Prescription Preparation】

  Grind the above five ingredients into coarse powder, pack it into a cloth bag along with 5000g of white wine in a container. Cover the container and heat it in a water bath until it boils. Pour it into a jar and seal it, soaking it for 30-40 days, stirring it once a day. Take out the soaked liquid from the cloth bag, then press the bag to extract the liquid. Combine the squeezed liquid with the soaked liquid, add 500g of sugar and stir to dissolve. Let it sit for a few days, filter it, and it's ready.

【Functions and Indications】

  Nourishes the kidneys and liver. Used for deficiency of the liver and kidneys, weakness, emaciation, soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, and insomnia.

【Identification of Goji Berries】

  (1) The powder of this product is yellow-orange or reddish-brown. The surface cells of the outer pericarp are polygonal or elongated polygonal, with straight or finely undulating pericarp surface and parallel horny stripes on the outer pericarp. The thin-walled cells of the middle pericarp are polygonal, with thin walls and orange-red or reddish-brown spherical particles in the cell cavity. The surface of the seed coat cells is irregularly polygonal, with thick walls, undulating waves, and clear layers.

  (2) Take 0.5g of this product, add 35ml of water, boil it for 15 minutes, let it cool, filter it, and extract the filtrate with 15ml of ethyl acetate. Take the ethyl acetate solution, concentrate it to 1ml, and use it as the test solution. Take 0.5g of Goji Berries as the control material and prepare the control material solution in the same way. Perform thin-layer chromatography (Appendix VIB) test, take 5ul of the above two solutions respectively, spot them on the same silica gel G thin-layer plate, and use ethyl acetate-chloroform-formic acid (3:2:1) as the developing agent. Develop, take out, air dry, and inspect under ultraviolet light (365nm). In the chromatogram of the test material, there are fluorescent spots of the same color as the chromatogram of the control material at the corresponding positions.

【Precautions】

  1. Avoid greasy foods.

  2. Use with caution in cases of weak spleen and stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal distension, loose stools, and excessive coughing.

  3. Not suitable for patients with colds.

  4. Patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease should take it under the guidance of a doctor.

  5. Take this product before meals.
