The waist is the home of the kidneys, meaning that the waist is the dwelling place of the kidneys. Regularly massaging the waist area can prevent and treat conditions such as muscle strain and lower back pain caused by kidney deficiency in middle-aged and elderly people. So how can we strengthen the kidneys and invigorate yang? Below, I will recommend some massage techniques for traditional Chinese medicine kidney tonification and yang invigoration!
1. Foot Sole Massage
According to traditional Chinese medicine, the Yongquan acupoint connects directly to the kidney meridian, and the foot sole is the location where turbid Qi descends. Regularly massaging the Yongquan acupoint can nourish the essence, strengthen the kidneys, promote overall health, prevent premature aging, and also benefit the liver, improve vision, promote sleep, and have certain therapeutic effects on dizziness, insomnia, tinnitus, coughing up blood, nasal congestion, and headaches caused by kidney deficiency.
The method of foot sole massage is as follows: soak your feet in warm water before going to bed, then rub your hands together to generate heat, and use the palm of your left hand to massage the sole of your right foot, and the palm of your right hand to massage the sole of your left foot. Repeat this for more than 100 times each time, until your feet feel warm. This method has the effect of strengthening the kidneys, nourishing yin and reducing heat, and is particularly effective for the common symptoms of heatiness in middle-aged and elderly people.
2. Kidney-Strengthening Exercise
1. Sit upright with your legs naturally apart, shoulder-width apart. Bend your elbows and raise your hands to the side, with your fingers pointing upwards, level with your ears. Then, raise your hands upwards until you feel a slight pull in your ribs, and then return to the starting position. Repeat this 3 to 5 times in a row, and you can do 3 to 5 sets per day.
Before performing the exercise, relax your whole body. Inhale while raising your hands, and exhale while returning to the starting position. Avoid using excessive force during the exercise. This movement can activate the muscles and tendons, open up the meridians, and also guide the Qi to the Dantian, providing relief for the elderly, the weak, and those with shortness of breath.
2. Sit upright with your left arm bent and placed on your legs, and bend your right arm with the palm facing upward. Perform a throwing motion 3 to 5 times. When performing the throwing motion, throw your hand upwards into the air, and the motion can be slightly faster. Inhale when throwing your hand upwards, and exhale when returning to the starting position. This movement has the same effect as the first movement.
3. Waist Massage Exercise
1. Rub the palms of both hands together until they are warm, and then place them on the waist with the palms facing the skin. Massage the waist area up and down until you feel warmth. You can do this exercise once in the morning and once in the evening, with approximately 200 repetitions each time. This exercise can tonify the kidneys and gather Qi.
2. Make fists with both hands and use the prominent part of the interphalangeal joint of the thumbs to naturally massage the waist area. Perform circular rotation massage inwards, gradually exerting more force until you feel soreness and distention. Continue massaging for about 10 minutes, once in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
The waist is the home of the kidneys. Regularly massaging the waist area can prevent and treat conditions such as muscle strain and lower back pain caused by kidney deficiency in middle-aged and elderly people.
