Mofa can be divided into palm rubbing and finger rubbing.
Operational Requirements
(1) Relax the shoulders, hang the elbows, slightly bend the elbow joints, and relax the wrist joints.
(2) When palm rubbing, the fingers should be naturally extended, and the palms should be attached to the body surface.
(3) When finger rubbing, the wrist and palm fingers should be slightly bent, and the fingertips of the index, middle, and ring fingers should be attached to the body surface.
Essentials of Action
This method requires the wrist, along with the forearm, to perform a gentle and coordinated circular motion without affecting the subcutaneous tissue. The frequency of the technique is about 120 times per minute, with light and smooth movements, steady and even force. Generally, start with light pressure and gradually increase the intensity, avoiding compression or kneading. The rubbing direction can be clockwise or counterclockwise, with clockwise rubbing being tonifying and counterclockwise rubbing being purging. Half clockwise and half counterclockwise is neutral.
Clinical Application
This method can be combined with pushing technique and is suitable for various parts of the body. It has the effects of tonifying qi and strengthening the middle, regulating the stomach and intestines, promoting blood circulation, dispelling blood stasis, reducing swelling, and relieving pain. Palm rubbing is mostly used in the abdomen, waist, back, and limbs; finger rubbing is mostly used in the chest, abdomen, head, and face.
