Enhancing Digestive Function: A Holistic Approach to Obesity and its Underlying Causes

November 30, 2023

The main reason for obesity is ultimately eating too much. However, in reality, digestive or pancreatic dysfunction often worsen the situation.

Disorders in digestive function can lead to the inability to metabolize water in the body, resulting in the accumulation of excess water. The breakdown of fat is also unable to function properly. 70% to 80% of obese patients tend to have constipation, which is also due to poor intestinal function.

In addition, low pancreatic function can lead to insufficient hormones (insulin) that convert sugar into energy, so not only the metabolism of sugar, but also the metabolism of fat, protein, water, and minerals can be affected. As a result, the body overeats to replenish energy, leading to weight gain. Therefore, it can be said that diabetes is a companion of obesity for this reason.

To enhance digestive function, we can apply pressure and friction to the two acupoints above the navel called "Zhongwan" and "Shuifen". Zhongwan acupoint can address common fatigue-related gastric disorders in modern people and improve the breakdown of fat. Shuifen acupoint can promote water metabolism and have the effect of eliminating excess water in the body. The acupoint "Shimen" just below the navel is very effective in improving pancreatic function. It can also be pressed and rubbed like Zhongwan and Shuifen points.

Next, overlap the four fingers of both hands, excluding the thumbs, and draw circles in a clockwise direction from slightly above the navel, with the navel as the center, and rub moderately. This can stimulate the acupoints "Daheng" and "Tiankou" and is effective in relieving constipation.

Finally, there is "abdominal massage". Alternately press and push from the ribs to the navel, and then vibrate the hands. "Abdominal massage" is very effective in promoting the metabolism of subcutaneous fat.

The above movements form a set. When lying on your back, perform 3 sets with the knees slightly bent.
