Many people nowadays do not pay attention to their physical health, especially when it comes to taking care of their stomach. They harm it more than they care for it. Self-massage techniques for stomach pain

Stomach pain, also known as chest pain in traditional Chinese medicine, is a common symptom of digestive system problems that occurs in the abdominal area near the heart. Common conditions associated with stomach pain include duodenal ulcers and chronic gastritis.

In traditional Chinese medicine, stomach pain is often caused by an improper diet, overconsumption of fatty and sweet foods, or the consumption of cold food, which can damage the spleen and stomach. It can also be caused by liver stagnation affecting the stomach or excessive fatigue leading to damage of the spleen and stomach. Clinically, stomach pain caused by cold stagnation often presents as severe and sudden pain, with a preference for warmth and aversion to cold. Stomach pain caused by food stagnation often presents as bloating, pain, belching, and acid regurgitation. Stomach pain caused by liver qi affecting the stomach often presents as distention and pain, extending to the sides. Stomach pain caused by spleen and stomach deficiency and cold often presents as a dull pain, vomiting clear water, and relief from warmth and pressure.

Rub Zhongwan

Overlap both palms and press them firmly against the Zhongwan acupoint. Rotate and massage in a clockwise direction for 1-2 minutes, then rotate and massage in a counterclockwise direction for 1-2 minutes.

Push Liangmen

Overlap both palms and place them on the abdomen. First, move from the right rib arch to the left rib arch and then to the navel. Then return to the right rib arch. Rotate and push the Liangmen acupoint in a clockwise direction for 1-2 minutes, then rotate and push in a counterclockwise direction for 1-2 minutes.

Push Neiguan

Use the thumb to massage the Neiguan acupoint. Alternate between the left and right acupoints, massaging each for 1-2 minutes.

Push Zusanli

Sit down and use the thumb of the right hand to massage the Zusanli acupoint on the left side for 1-2 minutes. Then switch to the left hand and massage the Zusanli acupoint on the right side for 1-2 minutes. The massage frequency should not be too fast, and the acupoints should feel a sore and swollen sensation.

There are three types of stomach pain

1. Liver Qi Type

Liver qi often causes stomach pain. In ancient times, there was a method of massaging the abdomen to help regulate liver qi. Patients can massage their abdomen for five minutes each time. Liver qi stagnation can be mild or severe. Mild symptoms include bitter taste in the mouth. Pressing the Taichong acupoint, which is located between the big toe and the second toe, can help reduce liver fire. Severe symptoms include vomiting sour water due to excessive stomach acid secretion.

According to Zang Fuke, massaging the Qimen and Riyue acupoints can reduce stomach acid secretion. In more severe cases, bleeding in the stomach and black stools may occur. For the treatment of these patients, it is important not to massage the abdomen immediately. Instead, start with massage in the limbs and gradually move to the abdomen once the symptoms improve. Be cautious with patients who have long-term gastric ulcers, as sudden onset of symptoms may indicate gastric perforation.

2. Food Injury Type

For stomach pain caused by overeating, massaging the main acupoints on the abdomen, such as Zhongwan, Qihai, and Tianshu, can help stimulate stomach movement and promote digestion.

3. Spasm Type

Spasm type stomach pain, also known as gastric spasms in Western medicine, occurs every time a meal is consumed and usually requires an injection at the hospital to alleviate the pain. This is caused by irregular eating habits. Massage treatment is different from injections. According to Zang Fuke, you can locate the tender spots on the back and use your thumb to apply pressure and shake them to treat the condition. The key is to believe in the body's self-regulating ability and use massage therapy for better results.

Conclusion:

Based on the massage techniques mentioned above for treating stomach pain, massage has almost no side effects. It has many functions and is simple to perform, convenient, affordable, and can be done at home. Choosing massage this winter is definitely a good decision. If your friends are not aware of this, it's time to inform them.
