January 21, 2024

Technique: Pressing, kneading, twisting, shaking, rubbing, etc.

Target areas: For the upper limbs, focus on the fingers, palm, and wrist joints on both sides. For the lower limbs, focus on the toes, ankle joints on both sides.

    Operational requirements:

    1. Upper limbs

    1) Patient in supine position: Both arms are naturally extended and placed on either side of the body. The practitioner can start on the right side using pressing technique from the back of the hand, along the back of the wrist, forearm to the elbow joint. Repeat 3-5 times, then the patient flips the palm and the practitioner uses kneading technique, accompanied by passive movement of the ribs, wrist, and finger joints.

    (2) Continue with the procedure, applying pressing and kneading techniques on the elbow and wrist for 1-2 minutes, accompanied by flexion and extension of the elbow joint and shaking of the wrist joint. Then use twisting technique to twist each finger joint and palm joint, accompanied by shaking of the small joints. Finally, shake the shoulder joint and rub the upper limb 3-5 times. Repeat on both sides.

    2. Lower limbs

    (1) Patient in prone position: The practitioner starts with kneading technique on the buttocks, then moves downward along the back of the thigh, back of the calf, until the Achilles tendon, repeating 2-3 times.

    (2) Patient in supine/prone position: The practitioner stands by the side and applies kneading technique on the front, inner, and outer sides of the thigh, then moves down to the outer front of the lower leg, dorsal surface of the foot, until the toe joint. At the same time, accompany with flexion and extension of the ankle joint and passive movement of inversion and eversion.
