November 30, 2023

Health massage methods are mainly self-massage, simple and effective. Representative health massages such as eye exercises and dry bathing are well-known. Now, let me introduce some traditional health massage methods to give a brief overview.

(1) Eye Ironing

The "Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun" says, "Rub your hands together to generate heat, then iron the eyes three times with your fingers on them. A divine light will appear, making your eyes bright and free from pain."

Specific method: Rub your hands together until they are warm, then place your palms on your eyes. Repeat this ironing motion three times. After that, slightly press your eyeballs with your index, middle, and ring fingers, and hold for a moment. It is best to do this eye ironing in the early morning.

Benefits: Nourishes and brightens the eyes. Regular practice of this method can make your eyes bright and vibrant, without any pain or discomfort.

(2) Ear Massage

Specific method: Press your ear holes with the palms of both hands and release suddenly, repeating this motion ten times. Then, use your thumbs and index fingers to massage the entire outline of your ears from top to bottom 20 times. Massage your earlobes in the same way 30 times until they feel warm.

Benefits: Regular practice of this method can enhance your hearing and refresh your mind.

(3) Eyebrow Massage

Specific method: Use the back of your thumbs to massage the eyebrows, from the beginning to the end, passing through the "Zan Zhu," "Yu Yao," "Yu Wei," and "Si Zhu Kong" acupoints. Apply a moderate amount of pressure until you feel a slight soreness. You can continuously massage each eyebrow 5-10 times.

Benefits: Improves vision and refreshes the mind.

(4) Abdominal Massage

Specific method: Place the palms of your hands on your abdomen and massage it in a clockwise direction, then in a counterclockwise direction, each for 20 times. You can do this standing or lying down, after meals or before going to bed.

Benefits: Massaging the abdomen after a meal helps with digestion and absorption. Massaging the abdomen before bedtime can invigorate the spleen and stomach, aid digestion, and promote sleep.

(5) Back Beating

Self-beating: Stand with your legs apart, relax your whole body, and half-clench your fists naturally. When beating, rotate your waist, and the fists follow the movement of your waist, alternating between striking the back and lower abdomen. Rotate your waist left and right, and repeat this motion 30-50 times. Start beating from the bottom and then go upwards.

Benefits: The back is where the Du Meridian and the Bladder Meridian of the foot Taiyang pass through. By massaging and beating the back, you can promote the circulation of qi and blood, regulate the five organs and six viscera, relax tendons and promote meridian flow, and strengthen the kidneys and waist.

(6) Yong Quan Massage

Specific method: Use your left thumb to massage the Yong Quan acupoint on the right foot, and use your right hand to massage the Yong Quan acupoint on the left foot. During the massage, repeat the rubbing motion 30-50 times or until you feel warmth in the soles of your feet. It is best to do this before going to bed or after waking up.

Benefits: Regular massage of the Yong Quan acupoint can regulate the liver, invigorate the spleen, promote sleep, and strengthen the body.
