Sexual Activity in Summer: Tips for Health and Moderation

February 19, 2024

Summer is a passionate season, and people's excitement levels are higher. Couples are more affectionate and enthusiastic during the summer, but moderation is important in sexual activity during this time. Otherwise, it can put additional strain on the body, which is already experiencing increased metabolism, leading to physical exhaustion and impacting overall health. It can even potentially "invite" diseases. So, what should we pay attention to during sexual activity in the summer?

   1. Pay attention to sweating

In the summer, the body naturally produces more sweat, and the desire for sex can make people excited. Many people find themselves sweating profusely even before engaging in sexual activity. However, do not assume that excessive sweating is a normal phenomenon.

According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, excessive sweating in the summer before engaging in sexual activity can cause fatigue in middle-aged and elderly people, as well as those with weak constitutions. Such individuals should wait until their sweat has completely dried and their heart rate has stabilized before engaging in sexual activity. For individuals who are emotionally stressed or physically weak, increased sweating after sex should also be taken seriously, as it could be a signal of an underlying health condition. It is best to take a short rest and wait for the blood circulation in the body to return to normal before engaging in other activities. After sex, it is recommended to rest in bed for a while, take a warm shower, and drink a glass of salted milk or soy milk. Avoid taking a cold shower or drinking ice water immediately after sexual activity.

   2. Avoid excessive cooling before and after sex

In the summer, the air temperature is high and the humidity is high. Many couples enjoy having sex in air-conditioned environments. However, during sexual activity, especially after reaching orgasm, the body will become hot and sweaty, and the pores all over the body will open. If cold air invades at this time, it can cause symptoms of a cold, such as nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, and headache, in people with weakened immune systems.

During sexual activity in the summer, it is important to avoid excessive cooling. If using air conditioning, the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors should be around 5 degrees Celsius, and the indoor temperature should not be lower than 27 degrees Celsius. After sex, even if you are thirsty, do not immediately drink ice water or take a cold shower.

   3. "Summer bitterness" sufferers should not force themselves to engage in sex

"Summer bitterness" refers to the feeling of overall fatigue, sleepiness, and loss of appetite that occurs every summer. The body gradually becomes thin, and some women may experience a series of gynecological symptoms such as irregular menstruation, increased vaginal discharge, lower back pain, and edema. However, these symptoms often disappear in autumn, and although "summer bitterness" generally does not affect health, individuals with severe symptoms should avoid engaging in sexual activity.

In addition, quality sleep is crucial for relieving "summer bitterness." Using food therapy to induce sleep, such as drinking milk or sugar water, about an hour before bedtime can help promote sound sleep. With abundant energy, sexual performance can naturally be enhanced.
