Here, we introduce five aspects that men should pay attention to when supplementing.
Vitamin B6 and Folic Acid
Vitamin B6 and folic acid are essential for men's supplements. Vitamin B6 and folic acid help to break down homocysteine, which is one of the risk factors for heart disease. Therefore, they are beneficial for heart disease prevention.
Zinc
Zinc is not only important for children but also for men. About 1/3 of men do not meet the standard zinc intake. Zinc is important but the required amount is not large. By paying attention to the intake of seafood, lean meat, whole grains, and legumes, the requirement can be met.
Vitamin E
Increasing vitamin E intake is recommended. Vitamin E can prevent cholesterol blockage and help fight against coronary heart disease. Therefore, men are advised to eat more foods rich in vitamin E.
Protein
Moderate protein intake is recommended. Except for men engaged in high-intensity bodybuilding exercises, most men do not need to supplement excessive amounts of protein. A moderate amount of meat, poultry, fish, or legumes, along with a moderate amount of low-fat dairy products, is sufficient. If the body does not require it, excess protein is unnecessary.
Iron
No need to supplement iron. Less than 1% of men are truly iron deficient, so there is no need to worry about iron supplementation. This is because supplementing iron may mask the information of diseases transmitted through internal bleeding.
If most men have iron deficiency anemia, there may be hidden risks of chronic visceral bleeding or hematopoietic disorders. Blindly supplementing iron without finding the cause of iron deficiency will blur this information of internal bleeding and delay the diagnosis and treatment.
In addition, compared to women, men cannot tolerate excessive iron supplementation. Once the iron in most men's bodies reaches a full state, the absorption of iron will stop. Excessive iron can even cause serious health problems.
