What causes dry eyes

March 27, 2023

With the step-by-step expansion of computer workers, the symptoms of dry eyes and eyestrain have appeared in many people. But dry eyes may be temporary, or may be suffering from eye disease, let's take a look at what causes dry eyes in the end.

Diseases causing dry eyes

Chronic conjunctivitis, ocular dryness, blepharitis, late stage chemical or thermal burns of the eye, aspergillosis, trachoma, vitamin A deficiency or Sjogren's syndrome, all of these eye diseases can cause dry eyes.

Pathology of dry eyes

The eyes, especially the cornea, mostly rely on the tear glands for water supply. When blinking, tears become a layer of "tear sheets" that are dispersed to the cornea to keep the eyes comfortable and make them appear moist and crystal clear. The "tear film" is divided into three layers, the outermost layer is oily, the middle layer is watery, and the innermost decorative viscous layer. Under normal circumstances, the three layers of the liquid content is equal, the content is not equal, such as one of the layer of liquid is not enough, the corneal surface will appear "dry spot". If left untreated, it can lead to chronic inflammation and red eyes, resulting in a gradual loss of corneal transparency and impaired vision.

When people are young, their eyes will look beautiful because they are well hydrated. As we age, tear secretion decreases. Long-term exposure to computers or excessive eye use will also reduce the number of blinks, and the eye lacks moisture from the intraocular lubricant - tears - the cornea does not get moistened, and the eye will become dry and sour, among other problems.

Bad habits cause dryness

Long-term use of computers, not relaxing the eyes, smoking, being in the dirty air for a long time, and being in a heated environment for a long time in winter are especially likely to cause dry eyes.

Warm Tips

Finally, to avoid dry eyes, the main thing is to pay attention to eye hygiene and blinking frequently can provide relief. Dry eyes can also be relieved by drinking more chrysanthemum tea, performing the necessary massage or having herbal treatments.
