Tea: A Natural Remedy for Obesity and Digestion

February 23, 2024

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the causes of obesity are related to the formation of "dampness", "phlegm", and "water stagnation". Therefore, light food that promotes spleen and stomach health, eliminates dampness, and promotes water circulation is considered ideal. This is where tea plays a role. It has the ability to clear heat, promote water circulation, break down phlegm, aid digestion, and nourish the spleen and stomach. Oolong tea and Tie Guan Yin are popular tea varieties. After a heavy meal, people often enjoy a cup of fragrant tea because it helps alleviate the discomfort in the stomach, thanks to its ability to eliminate greasiness.

Some ethnic minorities have the habit of drinking butter tea and milk tea. Most of them consume meat as their main food, which explains why tea plays a significant role in aiding meat digestion. Modern research has shown that tea contains caffeine, theobromine, theophylline, volatile oils, vitamin C, quercetin, tannins, and other beneficial components that help lower blood lipids and promote metabolism. It is suitable for individuals with various types of obesity.
